It's not the street car's fault that you can't afford to live in a mid-tier quality hill rental. Is it? Complaining about rent levels in KC is very dumb.
I could afford it, dumbass. Don't make it personal. I don't think anyone likes it when rent goes up for something they don't give two shits about and/or is useless.
Where did I ever say I never understood the situation? Also, that area was doing just fine before the streetcar. Stop acting like a 2 mile traveling machine has uplifted downtown from nothing to thriving. SMDH.

WC will you feel different in a few years if it goes out to UMKC and starts to expand all over KCMO?
Depends, how much is it going to cost us? I'll probably be on the KS side, CO, or by the coast by the time that ever happens. So sure, pay for it for me and i'll check it out.  :D

A couple things bud.

Most of the complaints you or clams posts about the streetcar are valid, but as a KC guy I'm just glad the city tried something you know? I mean, they basically had the attitude that downtown did not matter from 1960ish-1999 give or take a few years. So yes, its overpriced and kind of a novelty, but for a city our size its a great start and a way to get more people in the city. So what if Janie Lenexa and Jackie Olathe use it as a novelty to go to the city market on Sundays? At least they're spending money in KCMO and not at Bass Pro.

And to point out the street car as the reason your rent changed is insane. Ask someone who owns a building in the crossroads or anywhere in the downtown area what it was worth in 2000 vs now. The entire area has gone up in value drastically and to point to one factor as the reason for your rent increase is foolish. Come on man.
All valid points, but I do have a letter from quality hill stating how it did impact the increase. Obviously other things as well, but it was a bullet point for sure. I mean, rent is still the same where I live now. I just was over hearing drunks on Monday nights hitting my window and stripping around street signs.

Then, like, why did you choose to live there in the first place? "hmm...i hate noise and drunk people but I should live on one of the city's busiest streets next door to a dive bar."
I moved in with Mrs. Wacky. It doesn't matter tho. Before she lived there, she lived on the 12th floor of Baltimore. There I just woke up to this crap http://www.kctv5.com/story/24106086/pd-officer-killing-firefighter-celebrating-wedding

WC you just can't expect to live in an entertainment and business district and enjoy a nice quiet street where nothing happens.

i don't know who's pocketing all this money :curse:

Pretty obvious the streetcar is lining their pockets with this money.  It's nothing more than a crime syndicate targeting landlords citywide who pass the cost of the shakedowns to their tennants in the form of a "rent increase".

It was so great!  I love living in JOCO and being able to enjoy the crazy city life via streetcar!  Such a magical time to be in Kansas City!  I hope they extend it all over!

don't be mistaken, the UMKC expansion will be the nail in the coffin that this expansion effort needs

maybe so. maybe its a waste of money bridge to no where, but I'm going to root for it to work and be successful.

it's about competing priorities
if we lived in mountain view, i'd feel differently

I don't think this detracts from from any other priorities. The added tax revenue from the novelty crowd is probably a positive for other priorities
the fault in your premise is assigning all new value downtown to the streetcar and ignoring the tif funding (empty tax rates) along the lines. maybe the downtown plan was so poor that it wouldn't be a success without the toy train but i wouldn't be surprised if kcpd or kcps would like the tax dollars currently supporting the shuttling of schiela shawnee b/w 14th and crown center.

Not a single person is saying downtown is growing only because of the streetcar, but it is a positive factor.

I'm sure kcpd is happy they are receiving the earnings tax from the thousands of new downtown residents (and thousands more planned)
i'm sure that they'd also like the money diverted to supporting the needless streetcar to help police the thousands  (your number is extremely exaggerated) of new downtown residents who live their regardless of a needless streetcar

Have there been police funding initiatives turned down recently? I would fully support any tax increase they need. Not sure how that is related to the streetcar though.

Once they build a new Royals K in the East Bottoms the streetcar will be a great way to get to and from the park for midtown mocat and lenny lenexa alike.

Wow...that escalated. To answer wacky question from pages ago...I own...and my property taxes went up specifically for the streetcar. Just as they did when the CID was formed and when we voted for other tax increases since I've lived in my place over a decade. I gladly pay them as I see the value.

Clams blaming TIF for streetcar funding is just laughable.
