The public should have absolutely no say in how their money is spent.

Those commies in Utah right? I mean we should vote on everything....Why don't I get to vote on every road resurface?

I honestly don't mind voting for the bonds for any kci changes....But look how easy those SLC guys have it...They can do whatever and voters get no say.

sly games the system, sets the TDD up and 350 voters approve the streetcar, Phil Titola: "VOTING IS GREAT!!"

sly can't game the system and the voters say no thanks to a billion dollar airport boondoggle, Phil Titola: "VOTING SUCKS!!"

seriously can't make this crap up, folks

TDD is the law clams....Minor details

it is the law but it's a workaround.  the city continually voted the public transportation ideas down, except for clay chastain's- which the city subsequently and correctly threw in the trash.  so to skirt the city's voters, he decided to create the tdd.

russ johnson's "i know 50 people, I'll get a tdd vote" quote at city hall says it all

minor details

Do you honestly believe a vote for a candidate is your endorsement of them to spend money how they see fit?

Already said I don't mind a vote for the issuance of airport bonds....I am interested why KCMO requires that vote and other cities don't...Is it a state law I wonder? I know the LaGuardia terminal didn't require a public vote. Neither did the SLC one noted earlier.

I'd guess those cities have proven to have more responsible leadership and less corruption than ours.

Why do you think cities have to vote on new stadium funding?

Is Phil's government one that says, "Hey I voted you into office and now you have free reign to go do and spend what you want?" or are you only concerned when you're agenda is hampered by the current functioning way of doing things?  A little bit too much power in the hands of the idiot people that the city government represents?

Just interested in the differences. Officials can make a lot o financial decisions without my input at the voting booth...Many I don't like.

To answer my own question it looks like revenue bonds issued by quasi government entities like a transit authority or Port authority don't require public vote as it's not public debt. The bonds kci was going after were general bonds I believe which is still considered public debt. Wonder if they will look to change that up...It might take a public vote to move the airport under some quasi government authority.

Speaking of bonds...Are we voting for the 800M GO bond issue this April? I'm on the fence....Obviously we have bridges and roads that needs help but I was hoping for more sidewalk money.

i'm not voting for it.  city hall told me that the earnings tax was going to cover that stuff.

the earnings tax needs to go away and the method by which we collect and spend our tax revenue needs to fall in line with the rest of the functioning world.  the current structure allows for too much fiscal mismanagement, finger pointing, and isn't transparent enough.

you're right, taxes are going to go up.  both property and sales.  as they should because they're artificially low right now.  the city gave away the tax revenue that it should be collecting and is in debt past its eyeballs and has subsidized its needs with the e-tax.

Point me to where the city is in debt past its eyeballs....It's bond issuance rating is aa2 right now which would indicate they have plenty of capacity for more debt....do you mean the backlog of infrastructure needs that jerks like funkhouser didnt have the cajones to address?

I don't have a lot of problems with the etax as it gets those who use our infrastructure every day to partially pay for it but given the negative connotation the etax brings, I'd be fine with finding other options.
