Jolie getting a compromise working on the crossroads liquor license ordeal... Nice work JJ.

Although giving one large property owner 35% vote on a surrounding liquor license is still pretty high considering how few actually live in the neighborhood...and that 50% approval is needed... And 75% approval needed for a 3am license... So basically that large property owner still can play god with who gets a late night license...but maybe this focuses late night bars more to the P&L type areas and helps residents of the crossroads overall.

Giving condos more voice is nice too

that's a good compromise, i guess?  the fact that the majority of the council didn't want to agree with how screwed up the other way was just shows how mumped that council is though

The council all agreed and passed her original changes... It was the crossroads people that pitched a fit and got people sign a petition to stop it.

I'm ok with the compromise. I think 35% is still too high, but I'd rather have this than it go to a city vote.

I also think the petitioning in KC is getting out of hand. Almost everything the city council does is met with some sort of petition.  I get not everyone will agree with everything, but that's why we vote these people into office, to make the best decisions for the city.

yeah, i know.  this "compromise" still gives to much power to the few.

Agreed and I like JJ saying all liquor ordinances in the city needs to be looked at holistically. I wish they would have kept the distance from the premise that could have a vote.

I always wanted that biking shop to turn into a roof top bar down there, and now they're doing good.  :frown:

I guess what i'm trying to say is, I've been waiting for that spot to go down for quite sometime. I was going to turn it into fannings pub and rooftop patio deck. I had great plans of doing Irish car bombs with my hommies, icing customers that acted up, and creating the greatest rooftop experience in downtown KC and now it's all for nothing, guys!

Quote
Alleged KCK bank robber, 70, chooses prison over home and wife

A 70-year-old man charged with robbing a Kansas City, Kan., bank said he did it because he preferred a jail cell over living with his wife.

Lawrence John Ripple is charged in federal court with the Friday afternoon robbery of the Bank of Labor at 756 Minnesota Ave.

According to court documents, Ripple handed a teller a note that read, “I have a gun, give me money.”

The teller complied.

But instead of fleeing, Ripple took the money and then took a seat in the bank lobby, according to the documents.

When a bank security guard approached him, Ripple told the guard, “I’m the guy you’re looking for.”

The guard took the money from Ripple and held him until police arrived, which wasn’t long, because Kansas City, Kan., police headquarters is on the same block.

When he was questioned later by investigators, Ripple told him that he and his wife had argued and he “no longer wanted to be in that situation,” according to the documents.

“Ripple wrote out his demand note in front of his wife … and told her he’d rather be in jail than at home,” an FBI agent wrote in the affidavit filed in support of the robbery charge.
