Why do you think the free streetcar won't have the same stigma that Kansas Citians seem to have with buses?

not kansas citians (as i said earlier the MAX is maxed out).

and no i don't think it will. do you?

Well, I assume the stigma has to do with being in close proximity to poor and / or homeless people, for which the free streetcar would seem to be a magnet. I dunno

in my experience, trains have more shady people on them than busses.

in kc, i think you'll be more inclined to rub shoulders with a college grad while on the streetcar (during the b12 tournament for example) than on the bus, dlew

I think the streetcar will be great for the big 12 tournament and other huge downtown events fwiw.  it's the other ~300 days a year that I think the streetcar is silly.

Proactive KC residents should write their council reps to get the poors off the bus and onto 'Clams' street corner I guess

Here is an example. Most everybody will ride the subway in NYC or the El in Chicago right? Tell those same people to take the bus in those cities and many times you'll get looks of horror.

In not saying everybody.... But for many that stigma exists.

This debate is really a microcosm of small towners vs big towners.

I don't disagree, I just think that a free streetcar is more similar to a bus than a train

Why did KC just randomly decide to build a 1 mile long street car?  Like, what is the point of that?

it's eventually going to the plaza, but the brookside residents were on the first vote and shut that down. so phase 1 is just from river market to crown center

What's the criteria of pass vs fail?

If any of the pro's that were promised in the sale of the project to the public don't actually materialize.

I don't know why anyone would be against the streetcar.. it's basically the stepping stone to a lightrail system which is absolutely amazing.

Ppl can handle change, but if we're going to pay taxes for some street car that goes 10 ft, then we have the right to judge wtf they're doing.

lol no, the entire city has repeatedly voted down the streetcar when given the opportunity to.  I'd guess we've said no eight times or so.  this isn't just brookside saying no.
we don't need one and it's hilarious that that you guys support it in the way that you do
