why does everyone say "American" south of the Ohio River? :dunno:

americans are mostly scots-irish, or at least people living in areas with large scots-irish populations.

why don't they identify as scotch-Irish? And why are they concentrated immediately south of the Ohio River?

They are the hill jacks, poor as crap and dumber than dirt but they love america.

Also because their ancestors couldn't read or write, literacy still only runs around 38% in those counties.

the south didn't require cheap labor from masses of european immigrants, so the white folks who are there have been hanging around for a long time. most of those white people were/are very poor and poor people don't care to do genealogy stuff.

Spoiler alert!! The great state of KS gets: College Mens basketball, Whoop, whoop!

well, that's only slightly less embarrassing than n. carolina, but much less embarrassing than iowa.

Reading that 11 nations book now. The original hill jacks were in WV and when more people arrived they would just float down the Ohio River to settle new lands since this was the easiest way to travel(no roads).

Why didn't they head north into the better farmlands of central OH/IN/IL? Welp, they were inbred hicks who hated being told what to do and thus avoided area's with large populations or where more people were likely to settle. Specifically the Yankee's from New England who were all about education and loved to start schools/colleges to assimilate everyone into there way of life.

One of the first things the Yankee's did when they settled KS was start the colleges that today we call KSU and KU.

Big 12 Roster Analysis Maps

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A guy (Penske File) on RaiderPower created these maps yesterday on Google. I thought they were pretty cool and worth sharing, very interesting visual analysis of roster breakdowns in the conference. Thus I am hijacking and posting them here, however his thread is located in the free portion of RP if anyone has comments or questions. He deserves credit for his great work.

Texas Tech, Texas, and Oklahoma
Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma State
Iowa State, Kansas, and Kansas State
West Virginia, Oregon, and Alabama
All Teams Texans on Roster (non-DFW/HOU)
All Teams Texans on Roster (DFW/HOU)

These Africa maps have become very fashionable of late, as though the Mercator Projection was singlehandedly responsible for every AIDS baby in Africa, its phenomenal.

I get that Africa is big and all, but it is a continent and not just a country...apples and oranges, ya know.

if africa combined and became a single country, id be like, kind of worried in maybe, like, 200 years, that they would organize and take over the world.

did not realize people were disparaging Africa's size.
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.
