The octagon was added sometime between 1955 and 1970.

Here it is in 1970 and you can definitely tell that the road leads into an underground area.

apparently the northern Michigan debate is as hotly contested as the western Kansas debate.

That is kind of interesting to learn. Makes sense that the Western Kansas debate is a member of a set of similar debates.

"Up North" (while still a stupid argument) is different because everyone vacations and/or owns a cabin "Up North". Like someone in Ludington won't go "nuh-uh!!!" if you tell them they're located up north. It's a lovely place.

The light blue is what these things look like on our maps and the dark blue is how big they are irl like on a globe. I knew it was this way but not, like, this much.
