I've tried to communicate how wide open it is in the western half of the US to people from like NY, NJ, and PA. They have absolutely no ability to comprehend what I am trying to tell them.

It's always like, "you could literally run out of gas before you get to the next gas station!" "Oh, yeah, I've been on really remote roads like that." "No, dude. No. You have no idea! THERE IS NO COMPARISON!!!!!"

Was messing around on the JOCO property tax website and stumbled onto this.

https://maps.jocogov.org/ims/

All sorts of tools and options you can play around with. My favorite is the aerial map from 1941

Yeah so, apparently someone I went to to elementary-high school with is a super famous YouTuber and I had no idea.  Sad that he eclipsed Olympic gold medalist Tara Nott, and College World Series MVP Champion Sam Scott as the most famous denizens of Stilwell, KS

I think I've heard thunder twice in eight years living in the Bay Area. There probably wasn't one in 2018. I'm guessing it's because there's never enough warm air for a thunderstorm

we don't get any here either and it's not for lack of warm air.

it doesn't rain in the summer here = no lightning.  you don't get lightning with winter precip.

surprised az/nm aren't a little more colored up.  pretty cool thunderstorms with the monsoons.
