That's great mocat. Did the hardcore bros look down on your 4runner or is it more customized than it looks from the photo?

oh for sure, mine is pretty much stock. there was also a pretty hilarious toyota / jeep dynamic going on where the toyota bros were clearly proud that they were winching out a stuck jeep.

to expand on the situation for those interested (this is the VQ thread after all!): irl i am lucky those guys showed up. i got there first and nobody else was around, and i was mulling over whether or not to attempt driving through the snow, bc it really didn't look that bad. then 3 monster toyota trucks showed up behind me, and the jeep from the other side. the toyota bros convinced the jeep bro to attempt the crossing, with the understanding that they would winch him if he got stuck. well he got stuck immediately and it was difficult to get him across. then 2 of the 3 toyota monster trucks made it (barely, like on the absolute verge of tipping over), and one of them had to bail and just go straight down the mountain through like 4 foot deep snow. it was pretty nuts. so i obviously just turned around.
I enjoyed this story, thank you for telling it.

that looks like the same hike! was it the big spring / squaw canyon loop? and yeah, the scale is impossible to convey.

yeah it was definitely one of those. I think we did lost canyon to squaw canyon. Another day we went to island in the sky and went part way down the Lathrop Canyon trail.

if you look below you can see White Rim Road which is a pretty popular 4x4 route. getting down into the Canyon was honestly pretty scary

This is a pretty boring documentary, but I liked it.

i entered moab coming straight from telluride. driving up into the la sals on 46 and then la sal pass was fantastic.

which reminds me of a huge moab pro tip if you are driving from KS / I-70: instead of going to highway 191 and down, get off I-70 at highway 128 and take that instead. it follows the colorado river through a canyon and the scenery is nuts

There was a local watering hole across the street from our cabin that we visited each night and hung out with the locals which was a blast.

This guy in the middle cracked my crap up for about 4 hours 1 night.

Random Guy: Yeah, I've been married to 4 different strippers

ben ji: You didn't learn your lesson after 2?

Random Guy: Nope, took me 4 times to learn my lesson.

ben ji: So your not going to marry any more strippers?

Random Guy: Don't put words in my mouth...Normal girls are...well their just normal...But strippers, strippers are FUN.

Also the guy in the right of that picture with the cowboy hat is the local state legislature rep for the area and a retired principal. We told him we were from KC and he said he used to take a group of kids to KC every year for the FFA convention or something and they were always fascinated by homeless people.

These kids had never seen a homeless person in their life and it just blew their mind. He said it happened every year.

On the opposite side of the equation my buddy that came with me was blown away by cattle grazing on the open range.

He just couldn't comprehend that there is no fences to keep the cattle in and they just kind of roam around.

first of all the shoulder to shoulder at a bar is still kinda crazy to me but also how far do people drive those goddam side-by-sides? does just everyone in town own one?

The bartender said most of the side by sides were from the Ranch hands playing pool in the back but I don't know how far away they came from. Alot of the locals (500ish people) would drive around town in them as well.

And yeah, the side by side at the bar for the first time in 6 months was a little weird...but when in Rome.

Wyoming is still like the old world pre-covid.  No masks anywhere, people still shake hands, hug friends/neighbors, no social distancing. It was very strange for me too, I didn't go in any bars but I ate out more the 2 weeks I was there than I have since covid started.

I haven't made it out to WY yet but about 1 hr south of the cat ranch is the little Jerusalem Badlands.

Joco resident Kevin Morby recorded his new music video there!

That looks a lot like Castle Rock, but not sure because it's been over forty years since I been there.

Yeah I might be wrong. There's a few places out there it could be and I can't recognize them perfectly

Mich appears to be right, imo. However the ending shot sequence may be castle rock.
Same part of the state
