The fact that that dude is a bigot is the least surprising thing ever. As someone else said there is no way that some bigoted things didn't find their way onto the cutting room floor. I really don't think he meant those homophobic and racist things with malice but that happens at the intersection of religious zealotry and stupidity. I don't think he is smart enough to string together a coherent thought about his view of what his religion has taught him without sounding like a the moron he is.

A&E had to do something though, I still don't use kayak.com & shop at Lowes after the All-American Muslim controversy and I used both religiously before then. TV networks always have to choose the safe side angle least they not be thought of as tolerating bigotry.

The last time A&E had to suspend a bigot also came from a very unsurprising source, Dog the Bounty Hunter. Dog found out one of his sons were dating a black girl, he called the son who recorded the conversation, hilarity ensued

Get over it, gays. You're not special. Who cares what Phil Robertson said? Here is the reality: as long as you walk on this earth, you are going to be subjected to jokes and stereotypes, and the same goes for everyone else. People make fun of rednecks all the time, but you don't hear us crying about it. People say cruel things about Jews all the time as well, and I don't hear word one out of them. Out of all the "minority groups" (blacks, Mexicans, gays, Muslims, etc.) the one I see the biggest outcry from is the LGBT community, and it isn't even close. I can't get on the internet, turn on the TV, or read the paper without having to hear about some gay or lesbian person complaining about something. YOU ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN ANYONE ELSE. If you truly want to be viewed as equal, then start acting like everyone else.?

By the way, Phil's comments were not offensive. They asked him what he thought sin was and he gave a list. He asked why he didn't understand homosexuality and he gave a very straight forward answer. Hell, he even used the clinically correct terms for the reproductive organs. Maybe he'd still have a job if he had said assh*le and p*ssy. Good grief.?

No one is using that as an excuse, rusty. The observation that people are a product of their environment isn't an excuse its an explanation and not a mind blowing one at that.

I just think the outrage is misplaced.  A redneck reality TV star is going to say redneck reality things.  Can't understand why this is shocking to anybody. 

Like, for instance, my wife was watching Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.  They're at a pool, but one of their friends won't swim with them.  One of the broads makes the comment, "You're black."  (girl was actually latin).  "It was a joke and my black friends would've laughed crazy, 'cause they don't go in the pool because they will get their weave f*cked up . . .All my black friends can't swim. Is that bad?"

Overtly racist.  Very stupid.  Incredibly bad taste.  Yet, at the same time, not terribly shocking coming from her dumbass.  Not removed from TV, no facebook backlash.  Nobody gives a crap.  Because it's America and morons will say moronic things.

to be clear, there's been outrage [insert other adjective] on both sides.  Outrage at the comments.  Outrage at the suspension.  Regardless, every online/print news source is now running front page pieces on the controversy (Time, Nyt, Wash Post, foxnews, cnn, huffpost, bbc, etc.)  A&E is trending on twitter.  Both sides are waging war on facebook (although it appears Phil is getting more support).  Every television news program is running commentary on the issue.  The Morning Joe segment on MSNBC this morning is a good example of the outrage on both sides of the issue.  http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/duck-dynasty-anti-gay-panel-spars
