Google has a people finding tool that can hopefully help you MIR

http://google.org/personfinder/2013-boston-explosions/

Thank you

Cell service being shut off in Boston is making this a very stressful time for me and my wife

Is your wife up there?

Thankfully no but her godmother is a volunteer for the BAA

Also people mentioning the fire at the JFK Library. The fire was separate from the explosion, people were sent home and a function was cancelled as a result of the fire. The explosion happened after and there has been no reported injuries.

Since I have started this message we have gotten a text from daughter of my wife's godmother. All good. And the BPD says the reports of an arrest are false. WBZ in Boston is reporting that they have surveillance video of a suspicious person with 2 backpacks

Is it bad that I hope this is more McVeigh than Osama?

I hope the opposite.

Middle East parking lot theory?

not really. i don't like what it says about the future when young, educated white males feel they have to do this crap. it's easier to accept a religion being the problem.

Why in the world do they do this?

Remote detinations through cell phones

Ahh.  Welp.

Jesus, I didn't know that either.  Kinda hate that I have to know that now.

You'd hate the real reason even more.

Logistically (and purely logistically) I hope for the latter.

Yeah, I'd rather be attacked from the outside than from within.

officials with Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel said there had been no such requests.

Sprint spokeswoman Crystal Davis said: "Minus some mild call blocking on our Boston network due to increased traffic, our service is operating normally."

Was thinking the same thing. Probably some nut who thinks he's Bane again.

Why blow up the finish line? There are way more people at the starting line.

Was there any truth to the "third bomb" thing that was reported, or was that the JFK library deal?  I was in my car earlier and NPR had some dude on saying the cops detonated a third bomb, but he was some rando on a cell phone.

Yeah, they purposely detonated a third bomb but it was controlled.

Yeah. Does sound that way. eff it. It's a method to prevent organization/coordination of secondary attacks.

I think it was the JFK thing. they are currently "disarming" tons of bags and discarded boxes all over the area.

I have no info/connections on any of this. Just woke up and saw the news. But SD sounds right. There will be a lot of "disarming" of non-armed things going on right now.

Agreed. It seems too soft of a soft target. Not "spectacular."

My gf's bro crossed the finish line 1 minute before this happened.  (He's fine, she's not.)  Man, humans are just the worst.

Tangential, but related: I was watching BBC a couple weeks ago and they were talking about a bombing in Pakistan.  The reporter said an organization "admitted responsibility" for the bombing.  I've never been comfortable with the American phrasing of saying an organization "claimed responsibility" for an attack -- as if it could be a point of pride -- and I think the Brits express it better.  Anyway...
"I'm thankful our MHK forefathers had the foresight to lynch white dudes so that we might be able to throw up the mob with a clear conscience."
