Whackycat, what way is your friend leaning?
He doesn't know. He's kinda nervous he's going to make the wrong decision. The staffing agency is really going after him hard, but he thinks he could pay off those college loans faster at the software company.

Is software company a base plus commission?
Yeah. Read the first post. The base is already more than he makes now, plus the commission. I also hear there's already commission grandfathered in from exisitng clients, so the potential is BIG!

Outside sales or inside sales?
Inside.

Well, I hope if your friend takes the software job he doesn't get the Central region of the US. I would hate to crush him. :)

If your friend is into relocating to Dallas, we have a couple of inside sales positions open.

Wackycat, tell your friend he needs to take the sales job. He is perfect for sales and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Commission is a beautiful thing if you are good at your job.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Tell your friend to take the software job, if the staffing firm is gunning real hard after your friend it might mean they're desperate and if they're desperate there is a reason they're desperate (maybe because everyone hates working there and quits :dunno: ) also could just be that they're a staffing firm and they know how to get people, but anyway software sales sounds much more hip (great thing to tell the fillies at a bar)

Your friend has an entire lifetime to pay off student loans. Media.
Lol. My friend officially burned most those bridges through social media and message boarding at an awesome site. Being heard on air isn't as important to him as it use to be. Just so he can be heard on air, PI'd by everyone in KC, eating ramon, and living in a shanty. He said, no thanks. It's easier to do on the side.

do you love doing it? Move to a smaller market, then work your way up. If you don't love it maybe you should stop talking about it so much.

I've heard smaller markets pay even less.

He should move to a larger market.

You know what I made in Garden City? 22 K. You know what I made at 610? 26 K. Everyone says follow your dreams until you can't afford to pay the bills or wear your shoes. Ppl who make it in that field either had college paid for or come from a trust fund. I'll stop talking about it for MC's sake. God forbid.

If you are going to college for a low paying job like that, the juco route is probably the best alternative. I mean, you could work weekends at Wal-Mart and pay for the first two years of your college education that way, then graduate with minimal debt.

As long as you are single, with no kids, and have bros willing to room with you, 26K is plenty to get by. If you ever want to move on and have your own place, though, the pay would have to escalate pretty quickly.

Yeah, both of those salaries sound perfectly reasonable for someone with basically zero experience in that industry. I mean it isn't like you have kids to be responsible for. I guarantee you that people have made it in media without a complete full ride or trust fund.

but yeah, a sweet ranch-style home in Waldo and student loans paid off is a pretty sweet dream, too.

Should've kept this in the bag.  If Wackycat08's friend is anything like Wackycat08, he would ask everyone here what to do in every situation.  You really could've had a leg up on him.
