I'll add that a lot of people think football is just about kicking the ass of the guy across from you in dominating fashion and if you don't do that often then you're soft. It depends on what assignments they may have when you're watching. If a defensive end or, for that matter, any lineman on either side of the ball just fires off the ball and tries to destroy his man every play that can lead to things you don't want. About the only place where that needs to occur on a regular basis is nose guard. There is a lot of positioning and reading what the other side is doing before going into beast mode. If a defensive end simply tries to maul the tackle every play the offense will use it against him. So, in this case, if you see Willis (whose responsibility on a given play) is to extend the arms and read, then it might appear to you he is soft. Nothing could be further from the truth.
