These situations are so dissimilar that I have a hard time understanding why they are being compared. Will is an average guard that likely doesn't have the athleticism to even play in one of the better leagues in Europe. So, he has not shot to make real money playing basketball. The reason the Spradlings acted out was because they dislike Frank, and they thought that Will was playing out of position. As has been stated before, Will had two more years left at KSU, so they knew if they could get rid of Frank, then Will would have a chance to play his desired position for a coach they liked more without having to sit out a year and move to a different state. Knowing that, the Spradlings launched an all-out smear campaign through every channel available to them including influential contacts, the radio, and local newspaper. JO coming into this year had a real shot to get an NBA contract with improved play this season. oscar Weber has refused to tweak the offense at all to cater toward JO's offensive skillset, which prevents him from showcasing his more marketable assets (defense and rebounding) to NBA scouts, because he has been nailed to the bench. In response to this, JO's mom posted a one paragraph lament about JO's situation on a social network, knowing that oscar's future at KSU doesn't have any impact on her son whatsoever.
