Gip, cheapest foul out ever?

puts me in a weird place. the refs didn't win the game for KU.

but those refs were a rough ridin' joke. they DID allow KU to gain momentum early in the game with their WTF and-1/intentional foul calls. i even yelled at the tv when they were calling those ticky tack fouls on KU up top. just made no sense.

KU went on a 14-3 run after Gip and JO both picked up 2 cheap fouls. Refs didn't win the game but they did make the game, not a game.

ku also had to sit Johnson and Releford with fouls at that point too.  they were calling it tight both ways. 

Johnson's foul trouble was one of the best things that happened to KU all night then.

They weren't calling it tight, they were calling it incredibly (embarrasingly?) inconsistent. McLemore drives into the lane - automatic whistle. Angel goes into the lane and gets mugged, no whistle. The Rodney breakaway dunk no call was hilariously bad. I'm in the camp of the refs made the score not as close as we wanted.  (in no way did the refs determine the outcome of the game; the K-State team took care of that).

I know this is a little tuckish, but did anyone else think that when JO got posterized by Withey and elbowed in the face if it had been the other way around the refs would have spent 10 minutes watching replays then come away calling it a flagrant?

I don't know if they would have done that but it absolutely 100% was a flagrant foul by rule and I brought this up in chat last night. Withey made contact above the shoulders while clearing space, inarguable fact. When Curt was a junior at CU he hit a shot and his flailing off hand made contact with a CU players face. The basket was waived off and he was charged for a flagrant 1. It would have been borderline absurd to call Withey for the flagrant but only because the officials never call an offensive foul when a big clears out with his off hand when going up for a shot like they should.

The officiating was a joke and last night was the perfect illustration for why people say CBB is broken. The way Angel and Releford defend is just absurd, they should both foul out about 10 times a game but the officials are gutless even more so in AFH.

What about Rod's dunk on Releford? Foul or no? Seemed very similar to the and-1 on the Withey dunk, maybe not quite as blatant.

I'd have to look at it again, but I thought Releford initiated the contact. I was too busy being snarky about the flagrant that JO got as it related to the Rod dunk.

I thought it was on Rodriguez at first, when they said Gipson I was a bit shocked.  Seemed like a reach in when watching real time, now this picture confirms it.
