I have a word for what most in this thread describe as a dive bar.  It's "bar."

I got a book on Denver's dive bars for Christmas.  I would think being in a book might exclude you from being a dive bar.

D8d you think there was some "dive bar" certification process.  The essence of a dive bar is the substandard service, appearance and cleanliness of the bar itself.  Perception is reality, sillygancat.

JJ's OP in Mission.

Now Sully's. Probably not a dive anymore, though some dive elements still exist such as a disgusting bathroom.

Red balloon also has Karaoke.

EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK!
:peek:

And those same regular sing the same songs every night of the week.

Friends used to live near there 25 years ago.  Went there with them.  Was an experience that even I, a dive bar aficionado found a bit disturbing.

Oh man, my hometown in California has my favorite dive bar.  Two pitchers of crappy domestic beer for $7, ratty old pool tables and dart boards, all around dirty place.  Typical crowd consists of junkies, bikers, people on parole for violent crimes and homeless people that sleep in the dumpsters out back.  They're also open 24/7.

I've gotten pretty weird at both.

I'd always wanted to go to Twin City because of this sweet royals miller lite tacker from the 80's that I saw in the entryway and stumbled in one night on the way home from westport. They were like wtf dude we're closing. Looked cool though!
