It’s not that assistants are leaving it’s (a) why are they leaving and (b) who are their replacements. These two issues are two of the many reasons I though bringing back Snyder was a mistake.
To answer (a) Partly, he simply drives them out because he doesn’t compensate them for their work - if you create an awful/tough environment to work then you have to compensate accordingly (i.e. if you’re hiring for an accounting job in the Artic, you kind of have to pay them more than you would if you are hiring them in Kansas). Snyder’s restrictions on recruiting are absurd. Simply absurd. And, I mean, you had to see this coming, right? You can’t possibly imagine that coaches who know their job will end aren’t going to jump when they can control where they land. This just another inherent problem with “calm the waters”.
(b) he has always done a terrible job at this, thus leading to the slow, eventual death of the program (i.e. bob > mikey > venzy > gush > elliott). It appears that he hasn’t learned anything, other than he took some time to watch Urban Meyer’s offense.
But hey, we got a conference championship out of it, so it was worth it. However, we will be in the exact same spot as we were last time, only when Bill hangs ‘em up again the point/thought that only LHC Bill Snyder (or someone that “knows” LHC Bill Snyder’s ways) can win at KSU will be cemented in everyone’s minds as Currie runs to Dallas to hire Ron Zook.
