2013 QB Competition: Sams vs. Waters

He was very confident that Sams had made the pass and was throwing it in all the anti-#life'rs' faces.

No doubt.  And I like that!

But he wasn't confused about anything.  He just made an honest mistake.  I doubt he sits down and rewatches the film or anything after the game and before the coach's show.

Did anyone else in the world thing that Sams threw that pass?  Right after the game, 2 hours after during that show taping, or the next day?

I was drunk out of my mind most of the night and passed out around the time the show was taped (I missed the Mayweather fight after setting up an illegal stream on the TV), and I knew who made every big play.  Old Brainz had even looked at the stats to know our guy was 2-2, but I guess couldn't figure out he must not have been the one making 50-yard passes when he only totaled 12 for the game.

The positive side of me explains the mistake away with the fact that Sams made a similar throw on a play with the same style of play fake to the TE vs UL and Bill said what he did because Sams is always on his mind.

It isn't like he just called Waters Sams and then quickly corrected himself, he put at least a couple of seconds of thought of the significance of Sams throwing that pass.

Maybe he intended to give this lecture last week when Sams completed the pass and he was pissed Wyatt didn't give him the opportunity to lecture his assistant coaches and racist tucks.

I'm not being indignant and in my opinion, I think you're wrong about this.  I think he legitimately thought Sams threw it.  I think it's a fairly easy mistake to make, given that we use two quarterbacks pretty interchangeably.  Had he said this last year i would've thought it was much stranger. Had he said it during the coaches call today, I would've thought it was much stranger.  But it was late at night after a game without having watched the film.  And because I think it's an easy mistake to make, I think it's a little unfair for people to shout "dementia!"

We all think (believe? know?) that he legitimately thought Sams threw it.  It's not an easy mistake to make, tho.  I can't imagine anyone else in the world made it.  As coach of the team whose top issue, at least on offense, is who's quarterback (maybe tied w/wtf is wrong w/the OL), knowing who was playing for key plays is important. 

It wouldn't be a big deal most seasons, but we've been going through 3 weeks of wondering what on earth Snyder is thinking when every piece of information shows that Sams should be the man, and he caps it off with not knowing who was in the game.  In light of qustions about his QB decision-making (or his not being the decider), him not knowing who's who definitely falls in a noteworthy spectrum somewhere between funny and outrageous.
