2013 QB Competition: Sams vs. Waters

Report from Monday's scrimmage:  Sams was on the sidelines in street clothes.  It lasted 3.5 hours and was very fast paced with several hundred snaps.  Snapped the ball so fast it was hard to track the peformance of any one player.  Only comments I got were on the pace and the fact our guys are well conditioned.

We should run nothing but trick plays out of the wishbone formation the entire game. Sams and Waters would both be in the Wishbone and both would throw an equal number of passes.

We should put Sams and Waters both deep to return kicks. Whoever fields the kick would run up one sideline and then throw a backwards pass across the field to the other QB for an easy TD.

I was really only referring to the pudness of the opponent. I guess I should have clarified, my bad.

That's a pretty big leap to make on this one thing.  My guess is Sams is a competitor and didn't want to miss practice time in the middle of a QB competition with Waters.  Snyder saw the bigger picture and said he needed to have the surgery now before the season starts.  Probably assured Sams he'd have a fair chance to compete once he comes back.
