There's no way we had a realistic shot at Wall.

That counts as a miss.

So he should have just ignored him completely? I doubt we wasted any significant time on him.

4 yrs removed from Wooly and 2 trips to the NCAA's now.  No doubt it isn't what you want to do if you are a perennial top 5 team.  Prob is that we are not, not yet.  Don't know a better way to work our way to that, though.  Our program is still pretty fragile.

If you're saying spending significant time recruiting Wall would have been a waste, I would agree.  That doesn't mean Frank has chosen to avoid recruitment of good players by design.

OK, we're in agreement then.

Nothing in the OP precludes this statement. There's something to be said for recruiting freakish athletes that have no true position in the NBA. That obviously don't preclude taking a 1-and-done player, but you can't build a program on those.

Yep. Although there's usually a predominant overlap, being good at the college game does not necessarily mean being good at the NBA game. You can recruit great college players who may never have an impact in the NBA (and will consequently stay 3-4 years). Again, Hansbrough is a great example. It gives you talent, experience and continuity. It's like recruiting guys like Tebow at QB to exploit weaknesses in college defenses that aren't there in the pros because of the huge jump in talent/size/athleticism between the two levels. JJ Redick and Adam Morrison dropped 30/night in college, and now can't get a shot off in the NBA. Similar to Sean May at UNC. Unreal post player in college that just disappeared as a tweener in the NBA.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Actually, it is contradictory.  "Tweener" is just a nice word for players that don't have the skills to play in the NBA - they're the next best thing to someone who has them.   Frank can't get NBA talent, but is recruiting the next best thing.  He isn't employing some shrewd strategy he leaned from Roy.

The NBA is full of tweeners. The original point is just dumb because there are only a few teams that consistantly get ones and done.

And we also have 2, maybe 3 super athletic players.

Yeah, because of his speed.

samuels more than judge.  at least to date.  judge needs to do something athletic in a game.  he's always off balance.

a lot of bball talking heads talk up samuels' lateral quickness too.  not sure i've noticed that, but they probably know what they're talking about.

I'd throw JamSam in there two.  I think he and Judge are similar athletes.

i hate that term as applied to athleticism.  i don't really even know what it means.  i mean sutton is probably as good an all around athlete as kstate has had in living memory.  but i can't think of anything "freakish" i've ever seen him do.

Freakish just means off the charts.  It seems like not many of our fans realize what a freak Judge truly is.

Doods, C. Kelly has a lot more upside than JAMSAM, not to mention more athleticism and pure basketball skills.

If there's one thing PW knows, it's pro measurables.  Except when he doesn't.

His quickness on the defensive end is special.  But no, he can't do a reverse two handed slam or anything like that I guess.

Yes, Frank hasn't gotten NBA talent to come to a program that had been relevant for all of 15 minutes since 1988. I seriously doubt its a trend that continues over his coaching tenure.
