4 yrs removed from Wooly and 2 trips to the NCAA's now.  No doubt it isn't what you want to do if you are a perennial top 5 team.  Prob is that we are not, not yet.  Don't know a better way to work our way to that, though.  Our program is still pretty fragile.

Nothing in the OP precludes this statement. There's something to be said for recruiting freakish athletes that have no true position in the NBA. That obviously don't preclude taking a 1-and-done player, but you can't build a program on those.

Yep. Although there's usually a predominant overlap, being good at the college game does not necessarily mean being good at the NBA game. You can recruit great college players who may never have an impact in the NBA (and will consequently stay 3-4 years). Again, Hansbrough is a great example. It gives you talent, experience and continuity. It's like recruiting guys like Tebow at QB to exploit weaknesses in college defenses that aren't there in the pros because of the huge jump in talent/size/athleticism between the two levels. JJ Redick and Adam Morrison dropped 30/night in college, and now can't get a shot off in the NBA. Similar to Sean May at UNC. Unreal post player in college that just disappeared as a tweener in the NBA.

Actually, it is contradictory.  "Tweener" is just a nice word for players that don't have the skills to play in the NBA - they're the next best thing to someone who has them.   Frank can't get NBA talent, but is recruiting the next best thing.  He isn't employing some shrewd strategy he leaned from Roy.

i hate that term as applied to athleticism.  i don't really even know what it means.  i mean sutton is probably as good an all around athlete as kstate has had in living memory.  but i can't think of anything "freakish" i've ever seen him do.

Yes, Frank hasn't gotten NBA talent to come to a program that had been relevant for all of 15 minutes since 1988. I seriously doubt its a trend that continues over his coaching tenure.
