If Bil retires after this year, we should take his name off the stadium.  It would be the worse than the first time, like if he had done it after 2003.  Our roster is still crap overall. And there is way too much competition right now for better openings.

You are a jackass

It's the truth.  The waters wouldn't be calm at all.  Retire after next year and it's all good.

What changes between now and then?

There is talent on next years roster. The team is better since he re-upped. We can hire a functional coach. We are doing a $75,000,000 expansion. He is 73 years old. You are dumb.

A drunk six year old could coach next years team to the Cotton Bowl. I say that because I am a drunk six year old.

Here's how I see it:

Look at our roster and incoming recruiting class (which is sparse right now, but I think when it's all said and done, we should land some nice jucos to fill the holes).  If Bill goes and it's not someone internal, you can (a) kiss that sparse recruiting class -and any jucos - good bye and (b) the new guy has ZERO time to get anything cobbled together.  Couple both those things with our current depth chart (specifically on defense) and the next coach is just set up to rough ridin' fail.  I'm also worried that we'd get some rough ridin' pro-style offensive guy or something and eff Sams.

If it is an internal canidate, I still think we will lose some of those jucos - specifically to Weis - and I just think that in comparison to the year after, it would be more difficult given the new starters that we'll have to have on defense.

If he waits until after next year, he'll probably be returning a lot of starters (on offense and defense) which will (a) be more attractive to an outside canidate and (b)give the new guy a better starting point.

Let me also add that this year we'd have way too much competition for viable canidates.

Zack, it's going to be like that after every Snyder season. When was the last time one of his teams had any real depth?

true, we just have more depth (relatively speaking) after the first year of the juco cycle rather than the second.  I'm just looking at what's optimal.

and I think next year there will be less teams looking for coaches.

I don't think this matters much to us. All the coaches we'd be in the market for will be crapshoots or retreads no matter what. I get your juco cycle, but I don't think it makes a huge difference.

I could see curry going after a crapshoot offensive coordinator.  He's already made his retread hire.

Which hire is sexier? This year or next? I say this year.

Well, it's more of the ripple effect.  We may not go up against Auburn/Ark, but whomever Auburn hires we might (i.e. Briles).

Yeah, and if we get our second choice because Baylor got our first choice, I don't think you can say will will suffer for it with any certainty. It's just as likely our second choice would succeed as our first - it's how it is when you deal with hires at the KSU/Baylor level.

Chizik (a proven national championship winner) would come here.

This is as good as it gets. For K-State.

What a sweet victory it would be for Iowa St. fans getting to kick a Chizik coached K-State team year end and year out (until we hire Snyder for a 3rd stint).

Why would Chizik want to coach anywhere? He gets over $150,000 a month to sit on his ass. From what I understand, he doesn't get that if he takes another job.

I agree with zacker. Next year would be much better for Snyder to retire. At least we wouldn't be graduating 9 starters on the defensive end of the ball.

God, it's going to be Dooley isn't it?

1. Coaches don't sit on their ass.

2. Why are we talking about Chizik?

3. Our defense is in good shape besides for maybe the corners.

We're talking about Chizik because he is the football version of Weber.

Hood, Britz, Mueller, Dowling, Walker, Moore, Evans, Zimmerman... I'd roll with that.
