Still not revealing that he's Lennay, Ronniah makes a concerted effort to become friends with Manti. When he reveals that he only knows the girl he was expecting in Hawaii from e-mail, Tuiosisoppo encourages him to meet her. Ronianiah gently stops Manti as he's about to make a crack about homosexuals he knows he'll later regret, and they are both surprised by the intimacy of the moment. On following days, he manages to spend more time with him, showing that he can be amusing and supportive. Manti mentions that he is making progress to a children's reading level and that Lennay had given him the idea to try. One day, he tells Ronianianh that he in finally going to meet the now undeceased Lenay later that afternoon, Roninaniah expresses his regrets about being male at the beginning of their relationship, and says if it hadn't been for this, he would have asked him out "for as long as we both shall live".
