Another thing to consider: the 1998 team played TWO games against teams with winning records on the road, and won both by a touchdown or less. The 2012 team played 4, and a 5th that went to a bowl (ISU). In 1998, they had a stretch of 4 games in a row against (Big 12) teams with losing records and just played 4 D1 teams with winning records in the regular season. 2012 played 8. You may want to consider that when you cleverly compare average ppg.

this year's big 12 is/was incredibly overrated.  records be damned.

If I had to bet my life, or my loved ones' lives, on the outcome of a game between the 98 team and the 2012 team, I would not hesitate an instant to take the 98 team.

Not one instant.

Whatever the case, there needs to be a game with 98 Cats vs 12 Cats on it.

What the? Maybe I need to revisit and compare these rosters again. My memory may be fading. Has anybody already compared them side-by-side? ANY element of Defense going to '12 leads me to be suspicious...

That '98 secondary was pretty good iirc.  Butler, Carter, Chapman, Cooper, etc.

98 D-line was better, but Meshak is definitely in the rotation.
Arthur Brown is better than all three of those LBs, but nobody else from '12 is.
'12 DBs are about the same.

I take that back. '98 DBs didn't face anything like what '12 did.  '12 in a landslide.

Pretty much as I suspected. Who from '12 sneaks into that starting 11? Arthur? Ty? Meshak? Ira, I'm not sure on what planet this year's DBs are better than Coop, Chap, Butler & Carter (didn't we also have Neasman or somebody in nickle situations?).

IMHO, no unit of the '12 defense is better than the '98 defense. That year's D was definitely vintage  :lynchmob:

Zim plays ahead of either coop or chapman. nigel ahead of either butler or carter. I think you are too high on them because they beat up on a lot of really bad teams. also, as ira noted, they didn't play a single team that threw the ball well (until Purdue who whooped their ass). Neasman was also very meh.
