Still reaks of small timeyness. Schulz is basically saying we get confused with Kent state or Kentucky state or whatever.

I disagree. Small timeyness is when the entire university identifies itself with a moniker given to its sports teams.

Wrong. Small timeyness is trying to fabricate what people call you, instead of just rolling with what organically makes sense and is unique.

calvin.  the new dean began a $50m fundraising drive to build a new building.

Yeah, I knew that was coming, because they're about to launch another University Wide Campaign.   It's the thing to do these days, launch a "Campaign".   Then make people who don't pay attention think that the money being raised is over and above normal contributions, when in fact they're just counting normal annual contributions.  Dig a little deeper patrons, it's a campaign.

But I want to know how these conversations have gone over the last year or so.

The Animal:   How do you like my K-State 2025:  A Visionary Plan for Kansas State University?   BTW, we're going with Kansas State University not K-State.

Underling:  But President Animal sir, you've got K-State in the title of the campaign.

The Animal:  No I don't.

Underling:  I didn't see anything.

Currie:  We're going with "K-State" over in athletics.

The Animal:  Why?

Currie:  Because Snyder hates it.

The Animal:  Oh . . . well do you think I can get Coach Snyder to come and talk about the intrinsic values of using Kansas State University instead of K-State in my "K-State 2025: A Visionary Plan for Kansas State University"?

Underling:  Sir you used K-State in the title of your campaign again.

The Animal to Underling:  Are you still here?

Bosco (shooting laser beams at Currie):  You know John, you could get "Vaughn'ed" (uncomfortable moment).  You know, the 'Pat Bosco Student Welcome Center and Bosco Plaza at the Kansas State University' has a nice flow to it.  (adjusts gold cuff links).

The Animal:  Well here's the K-State first lady to give her powerpoint on EPAW.

Underling:

It's dumb. Shouldn't be changed. I spent a year in DC and on the east coast and most out there know who and what K-State is. There were times when I would say "Kansas State" and they would reply with "The Jayhawks?".

Then again, some thought the Powercat on my hat was a purple Hawkeye. Lots of low sports IQ out there...

Pete, post the LJW thing where they ask people on the street about this and they're all super ugly and homeless looking or work at Office Depot and talk about basketball.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Ya, looks like this was sourced from the Lawrence Journal World.

This has Vaughn Scribner's un-stylish fingerprints all over it.

All my ksu gear is bought from the _FAN store so it's a non-issue

Does this mean that we can have "K-State" to do with as we will in branding and stuff since the Animal is done with it.

Kathy, from Lawrence, nails it:

"Kudos to the cast and crew of “9 to 5,” the Dolly Parton musical at Theatre Lawrence. Once again our community theater has produced a hit. The show is not only fun and incredibly well acted and sung, but a useful reminder of the bad old days when the “old boys club” ruled the business world. Go for a great time and take your daughters. Don’t wait for the new theater, enjoy Theatre Lawrence now!"

I got a Thundercats reference before as well. Never watched the show in my youth, but have heard good things.

I vote we change to Kansas State University Thunder Cats.

Strong branding, a tip o' the hat to this wild Kansas weather, while honoring our feral cat heritage.

With the rich history of complete and total fail for our Marketing dept, I'm not too worried about this ever actually happening.
Koppe is a giant idiot bad person for sure but he's nowhere close to as big of an idiot bad person as others. To my knowledge Koppe has never bought an adult trike or talked to a dog whisperer.

Just makes sense.  Would end the crap about our mascot having a head and a human body since that is what Thundercats are anyway.

Also, Willie/Liono would get a sword, which would make pregame shenanigans infinitely more entertaining.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember this being about business cards and stationary.  The issue isn't with people walking around saying "k-state", the issue was with people in academics & administration going to conferences & recruiting functions and handing out business cards and pens that said "K-State" on them, then the people who recieved them going home and wondering what the "K" was for.  We had people traveling all over the U.S. handing out things that said "K-State" on them to people who had no idea what the "K" was for.

Finally, some rough ridin' common sense from the city leadership.  Do you have any idea how thin the margins are on  snarky t-shirt concessions?

"City commissioners at their Tuesday meeting kept alive the idea of spending $1 million to add 72 parking spaces to a garage planned as part of the $19 million library expansion project. But all five commissioners said they had concerns about how a special assessment would be added to the property tax bills of downtown property owners."

If you are asking if this is about admins identifying the school versus the general discussion by lay people, I don't know.  If you are asking if Angel will get held out of an NCAA tournament game for using "K-State" during a press conference, then I will tell you that will definitely happen.
