National ID cards in general would be a very Dem thing to do, except in election times when a tiny fraction of their voting base may have difficulty obtaining an ID, and it becomes a Repub thing to do.

Serious question, does it cost anything to get an ID?  If it is the same $20 or whatever it is for a new DL, I can understand why someone who was worried about where their next meal was coming from wouldn't want to waste $20 on an ID.

Also, there isn't anyone that actually thinks that the people who couldn't be bothered to get an ID are going out and committing tons of voter fraud, right?  They are worried about political groups taking advantage of it and influencing close elections, right?

It costs $26 for an ID in California. I think my DL was $32 or something.

We aren't talking about driver's license, these would be free picture ID cards. The laws in the few states that have voter ID requirements offer them for free.

I was in Florida in July and there was a lawsuit in progress regarding the voter ID law, and the judge asked the ACLU (or whoever was fighting it) to produce 1 person that was unable to get an ID, and they couldn't.

If you don't have some form of government ID then odds are you're a worthless piece of crap individual who should not be voting on who should lead this country.  What's funny is democrats are admitting that there are way more worthless democrats than republicans.

The current Sec. of State wanted a National ID card.

It's kind of sad that people don't understand what a Draconian, war loving person Hillary is, and that piece of work we've got in the UN would bomb everybody if she could.

anyone who cares about either side of this debate should be ashamed of themselves.

Honest question, how do poor ass bums that can't vote buy liq and cigs with social security money without id?

Do community organizers still fill out absentee ballots to vote D for them?

I was going to say something similar, but this expresses it much better.

It's one of the most patently cynical and meaningless things I've ever seen posted in the Pit.  I can see why it resonates on goEMAW.

You basically have to be a thoughtless moron, incapable of critical thought, to read that statement, think it makes sense, then decide you agree with.

Frightening.

even though its obviously a racist ploy, i can see the appeal of limiting voting to people who give enough of a crap to go find an ID

biggest issue i have is that ID cards are not free and there are too many poor people who cant afford even $26 to get one.  To say otherwise puts the people like fake, J Dougie on the same logic level as limo libs.

secondarily, the entire position is built on a counter factual bullshit position which ignores the fact you have to ID to register.

If they mandated the ID cards, theyd have to subsidize them somehow.  Hell, they had to basically buy everyone (who needed one) one of those digital tv box deals when they swapped over.

You don't need an ID to register to vote, in fact, it is illegal for them to ask for ID in some states like California. You can get free picture ID (non driver's license) from most or all states, and you can even use expired ID if it has your picture. Why do you not want to know who is voting? Because they aren't citizens, or so they can vote more than once, or maybe so they can vote as dead people?

Kansas apparently is offering free photo id's and free birth certificates to obtain photo id's for people that don't have them. http://www.gotvoterid.com/valid-photo-ids.html#feewaver

I just find it hard to believe that voter fraud exists to the point that this is necessary though
