if it's too loud, you're too old.  these colors don't run.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Top 5 Concerts You've Ever Seen
« Reply #76 on: August 13, 2012, 03:23:12 PM »
I'm pretty sure 311 was part of the worst concert I've ever seen.

Modest Mouse was my least favorite headliner ever. (there was an entertaining thread on ksufans)

Yeah, 311 is an awful band.  There are lots of reasons a concert can suck, but the worst is if the band just blows.  Like 311.  Even then, you can pull it off if your band is having fun rather than trying to be "cool" -- like, I had a blast watching no-talent Dread Zeppelin at the old KSU stadium, because it was just fun.  But 311 sucked and they didn't realize it.

Other bad concert experiences:
1)  De La Soul/Tribe Called Quest @ KU Ballroom (2 of my favorites of ALL TIME, but it was a horrible set-up and it sounded like Radioshack speakers)
2)  Cake @ Highline Ballroom (walked off after 4 songs because people were taking pictures, wtf!  you ain't THAT big time)

I enjoyed my 311 concert but it wasn't great.  I was just at the point of getting past the 311 phase and getting into good music though.  I've wanted to see Cake (though pretty well past their prime), the walking off seems weird

311 puts on a good show. You guys are just too old. lol at transitioning into Cake as good music

Ahhh a 311 kid.

How many t-shirts did you/do you own?

1) Eric Claption in Santiago, 2001
2) Blue Traveler in Tulsa, 1999

Those are the only two, soooooo pretty indisputable list.

Meh, 311 is fine.  I've seen them 3 times, always because I was interested in seeing someone they were with.  They put on a good live show and Tim Mahoney is a very good guitarist.  Saw OAR once, they put on a pretty solid performance.  Lotta music snobs itt.

311 puts on a good show. You guys are just too old.

If you want to see a much better show by an Omaha band, I'd recommend the Faint five years ago.  (This show could've been on my list of honorable mentions.)

I saw 311 with Snoop Dogg (OT: Remember Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, lol?) in summer '08, they were decent. K-Clark is the best live performer of all time and its not even close.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

I guy I kinda knew growing up was ragweed's manager or something. He tried to set me up (music-wise, not "that way" wise) with a chick singer once. Anyway, that's how I've heard of ragweed.

I do not remember her name. I think she was from Coffeyville.

Got there with about 20 minutes left in TT's set, guitarist broke a string and the rest of the band launched into 5 minute solo until he got it replaced.  It was my first time seeing them and thought that that was so  :horrorsurprise:

Haha ya I remember that now.

Afterwards we went down Mass street to some bar with both the bands and the bar owner pulled the shades closed and we drank for a long time.  Got to talk to Boland and the indian guy for a while.  One of my friends male genitals blocked the TT fiddle player at the hotel later (he was going to hook up with the girl at the front desk).  Pretty awesome night overall.

Have talked to Boland and Roger Ray (indian guy) at length a couple of times, really great guys that always make the time for fans.  Roger Ray always hands me a pick if I am close enough in the crowd (3 times).

Have also met Whiskey Myers and talked them into coming back to an apartment last time they were in mhk.  Seriously badass dudes that can  :drink: and :toke: with the best of them.

This is VERY hard.

1. Modest Mouse / !!! @ Clunk Records in Fayetteville, AR. (2001) - Probably my first GREAT concert, and therefor can't be topped, way too much sentiment here.

2.  Sigur Ros @ Uptown Theatre (2006) - Also saw them at Redrocks (2008), but their sound is soooo much better in an indoor space.

3. Maserati @ Club 007 in Prague, CZ (2007) - Awesome, historic and intimate venue for one of my favorite bands at the time.

4. Portishead @ Hammerstein Ballroom in NY, NY (2011)

5. TIE - Wilco @ Cains Ballroom, Tulsa, OK (2011) / Faithless @ Incheba Expo Park, Prague, CZ (2007)

Sucks to have to leave off so many good ones, but these are the ones that come to mind.

Good list asava

Most have been crap

Thanks.

In no particular order:
Refused in Chicago this year
Mogwai in Lawrence in '05
Queens of the Stone Age in KC last year (played their entire self titled album)
Mars Volta in KC '08 (3 hours of epic)
Nine Inch Nails in Columbia '08

Really could have put a few others.

This show was pretty amazing. Had a hard time leaving it off the list.

I'm pretty sure 311 was part of the worst concert I've ever seen.

Modest Mouse was my least favorite headliner ever. (there was an entertaining thread on ksufans)

when did you see them?

What are they? (PS suck it Ron Prince's Goatee)

1. OAR
2. Eric Church (KC)
3. OAR (KC again)
4. Eric Church (Topeka)
5. Something Corporate

This is assuming that local bands signed to major labels don't count.

Edit: Woof, great list, 'Meister.  :flush:

This list is gross.

OAR rough ridin' blows live I went to a show super pak'd and it sucked so bad I left.
