This sounds dumb, but there’s something relaxing about putting on a record & playing it all the way through know I can’t jump around or skip songs. I have music ADD when listening on my phone. I know I have a lot of weird personality traits, but taking away that ADD opportunity is soothing & helps me relax.
That doesn't sound dumb. That sounds lovely and is completely understandable. But I'm with Mr. Dave on this one, I just don't see it being worth the time/money/inconvenience. Also I don't have a ton of experience with it but I don't actually think it sounds better. I need clarity, not crackles.
I know this wasn't intended to be earnest but here's why I do it:
1) Throw money at artists I like. About half of my records and 2/3 of cassettes I've bought are from Bay Area bands who will probably just do a single pressing. Usually I got to know them a little bit and I like to support them.
2) The ritual is nice - pulling the record, looking at the cover, putting the needle on, flipping it, is fun.
3) I think vinyl sounds better than spotify + bluetooth. And I like the occasional crackle but a decent setup for around ~$250 won't have crackles on records if you're using records good condition. But usually spotify over bluetooth is fine. (The cassettes sound like crap and CD's will always be best.)
As for money I guarantee steve dave spent way more on his sonos system than I spent on my setup (and probably my setup + what I've spent on records) but he was paying for an easier setup which is great!
