What if it snows for the Texas game!

I want more than snow...

"Down 6 with jut 20 seconds left Ash is going to have a difficult time driving the field in these conditions, the wind is gusting up to 45mph and the snow has really started to come down"

"Ash takes the snap and looks for a reciever deep, he lets it go for goodwin over the middle and and ITS PICKED! I dont know how Nigel Malone was able to find that ball in this storm but he DID! And whats he doing now? IS THAT, YES, NIGEL IS MAKING A SNOW ANGEL RIGHT ON THE 35 YARD LINE."

"He sure seems to be enjoying Manhattan but that will be a 15 yard penalty for excessive celebration. Coach Snyder may be heated with the youngster now but all will be forgotten once they get in the locker room to celebrate his second conference title"

I have no idea who our television partners and tv windows and method of networks selecting games are anymore.

ABC has first choice of 18 games thoughout the season.  Right now they are negotiating for ABC/ESPN to pass some games on to Fox in exchange for games on LHN (they already have 2, breaking some rules somewhere).  I'm also guessing Fox is paying a little extra for 9 games, which is why the TV contracts haven't been signed/announced yet.

I just mean that in the shitty days, it was pretty easy to know what the options were and what we'd get.  3 networks, 3 slots, they'd pick 13 days ahead but every once in a while hold a decision until 6 days ahead.  You could look at the schedule and have a pretty good idea of whether the Cats were playing at 11(:30), 1:10, 2:30 or 6:00 and on what station, if any.  Aside from a good chunk of our games getting set way in advance now on national TV pursuant to TV deals I guess I haven't paid attention to (info was probably buried in the 5th paragraph of a Panj post), I don't know about the weekly arrangements for games where Fox/ABC/ESPN decided it would look bad if the Cats were on AGAIN.

Yes, and they're doing this with the Pac-12 too, but I don't think the general public really knows the mechanics behind this yet.

So, here's what I think is happening.  On weeks when Fox has an OTA game, ESPN probably gets a kick back from Fox to put something on ABC or ESPN.  So, we can probably have a game on Fox, a game on ABC, a game on ESPN, a game on FSN, and a game on FX.

The problem is that Fox owns all of our cable rights, and they don't have enough mechanisms to distribute the content.  Between the Pac-12 and Big 12, and C-USA to a certain degree, they're going to be loading FSN with games all day.  FX will get at least one.  ABC already splits viewership for prime viewing windows.  Selling and swapping content between Fox and ABC/ESPN just means someone's going to get paid for games that were just going to be collecting dust on pay-per-view or some Tier 3 network.

Is it possible we could have a Big12 conference game that is only on ESPN3?  I don't believe that has happened before, has it?  Seems like in the past conference games have been pay per view or no TV (KSU@BU in '10)

I don't think so.  If anything, that kind of game would show on K-State HD. CC can weigh in on that ( :dunno:).

What I don't really know is where FCS factors into all of this.  In the past, FCS would offer to carry a game, and the school could accept or decline.  We accepted a few times (Texas A&M, Kent State, Montana State), Missouri publicly declined last year (and made a big stink about it) because the time FCS wanted didn't jive with Homecoming.  However, now that Fox owns all cable rights, I'm not sure we can turn it down.  But, again, with 10 teams and less content, and at least 11 games designated to Tier 3 status, we may not have to make that decision.

You're going to have between 70-75 games on your platform every year for content with five games each week during the conference season. You have ABC, Fox, ESPN platforms (ESPN, 2, and U), FSN, FX, and FCS looking for content.  You also have a mandate in our agreements that each school gets to retain a game to promote their Tier 3 package.  Some may accept.  Some may decline.  We'll take ours because we have a distribution mechanism we're trying to promote.  Someone like ISU, Baylor, or TCU may give theirs back because they may not at this point.  Regardless, there's going to be a lot of tugging at games to see what platform gets what.  And what we know from the past is going to be thrown out the door because ESPN and Fox paid a ridiculous amount of money for Pac-12 football, and they're going to squeeze every drop out of it.  So we may be on FSN some weeks, and we may not be some others.  We may be on FX some weeks, and we may not be on some others.  It's hard to say.
