So I guess it is well-documented that marijuana is a gateway drug. Is this similar to how bacon is a gateway meat for vegetarians? Trying to wrap my head around all this guys, tia.

count me as a person that couldn't care less about the goings on of all those thug gangbangers in lawrence, kc, topeka. i mean as long as they keep their meth and marijuana and gangs in those areas and don't bring it to manhattan then i'm fine with it. manhattan and kstate are still just such special places and i don't think sometimes we realize how lucky we all are to be associated with them.

Do you guys think it's up to us as KStaters to step in and help these people?  Maybe we can all bus over there and have Rodney McGruder or JO or Angel talk to them about getting clean?  Maybe they just need good peer role models?  Like, each of our players can take one of their crank heads under their wing and get them clean?  I'm just posting potential ideas here.  I think we need to do something to help them.

An admirable sentiment, but our players would be facing the wall of racism and repression that is ku and lawrentucky.  Drugs are the only escape from ku/lawrentucky/massa seff.  I believe in obeying the law, but what else do these players have to hold onto?

Maybe we could do an exchange drug program with them? We could send Will to KU for a couple of seasons to try to clean them up, and in return, we would take ANYONE from KU into Manhattan for a couple of years to get him clean.

Maybe Rodney and the fellas can call them though?  Let them know that they are available to counsel them about the benefits of living a clean life?  I'm going to email the AD about trying to set up some kind of support group for the KU kids.  I'm not ready to give up on them yet, unlike some.

My initial thought is I don't want Rod or JO to be influenced by the stuff that happens over there. But then I think of Zulu and what is going on in his mind with the mess he inherited. What about him? We need to support our own, and I don't want to speak for Rod or JO, but I think they would want to help him. Even if that means diving in headfirst to the cesspool that consistenly happens there.

I think just having the KU players observe Rod, JO, Angel, etc. in their daily lives would have a tremendous effect. Show them that you don't have to shoot up crack to have a good time.  Volunteering at a charity can also be a fun and rewarding experience without the side effect of permenantly branding you as a loser.

I am concerned that no one on the Kansas Jayhawks actually WANTS to quit using illegal drugs.  If you read the comments of their fans, using illegal drugs is what every college student ever does all the time so it's not a big deal.

I'm just really concerned about this permissive attitude that seems to be running rampant not only throughout the entire institution, but amongst the fanbase as well.   The first line of action as Daris said is to put up a barrier between our fair school and their opium den lifestyle, and then possibly reach out collectively to intervene.

I think the situation is still to unpredictable to put one of our own into.  I mean, this it's the front line of the war on drugs. I would never forgive us if some thing bad happened and Rodney or JO became a casualty to the extremely dangerous situation that is Lawrence right now.

I am all for a scared straight program or some other type of intervention but fear that it is to late for a tough love fix and that stronger measures may be needed.

Maybe Turner Gill could be brought back to spread his message of good, clean living, restricted cell phones, no sex with women, etc.  THAT would be the tough love CNS Casey is talking about.

I'm with ETP on this issue.  As has been mentioned, just look at what happened to Michael Beasley.

Maybe we could send Deb.  Or, even better, bring Jon Wefald out of retirement for this assignment.

Junkies lie all the time.  I would like to think that Bill may have been above using due to the well known Crack Commandment "don't get high on your own supply", but fear that Bill may have lost sight of this.  Hope I'm wrong, but it would sure explain why every Kansas BB player is so addicted to illegal drugs.

Bill, they learned it from you. They leaned it by watching you.

Don't misunderstand me.  I didn't accuse Bill Self of smoking dope with his players...just like I didn't accuse Joe Paterno, Gary Schultz, or Tim Curley of buttfucking little boys in the shower with "Forrest Jer" Sandusky.

What I never understand about these things is that the cops were able to get enough evidence while undercover in order to account for $17M worth of drugs. What the hell, why didn't they bust after the first million?

Cop 1: "Uh, hey guys, we got proof that they have sold over one million dollars of drugs. Let's bust them tomorrow."
Cop 2: "No, lets drag this out. I want to be more famous for a bigger drug bust. Once we get somewhere north of $15M, then we can take them down."
All cops in unison: "Sounds like a plan."

The cops contributed to the drugging of the KU basketball team. The KU players are the victims here.
