Establishment doesn't want the mass of sheep to be exposed to possible 3rd option. and Alternative to the establishment. So they shut them out completely that way half the people didn't even realize Gary Johnson is running

Electoral College requiring a majority also keeps the man down. A system needing only a plurality of electoral might offer a third party candidate a chance.
