We have a green light. No the track will not go around the soccer field. Should be a nice facility. The soccer/track facility is child's play compared to what K-State is doing. The rec center building is fairly simple but should be pretty nice, and its for the city nor KU. KU is getting a deal here, free land and someone else is paying to hook utilities.

Lawrence is dead without ku.  It will dry up and blow away.  they have to do everything they can, even if it means screwing the taxpayers because the university can't afford to pay for their own construction.

A better track complex would do wonders for the Kansas Relays.

I hope that if they build a new complex they would still have the shot put downtown. Have gone past two years. Great atmosphere. Even people that think track is boring get a kick out of it.

Lawrence is basically Leavenworth plus a university that is very good at churning out useless degrees.

Zenger says no track in 2-3 years, is embarrassed that KU and Duke are the only D1 programs with tracks at their FB stadium.
Doesn't Washington have a track around its field?

They did but they started renovating their stadium right after last season.  This year they are playing all their home games in the same stadium where the Seahawks play and in 2013 their renovations (which is basically removing the track and giving the whole place a facelift) will be finished.

Some people think it's going to be an Olympic Village and asked the new commissioner how it compares to Stanford:

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/23/3776627/big-12s-bowlsby-not-a-fan-of-graduate.html

Bowlsby, who joined the Big 12 after working as the athletic director at Stanford, was also asked to compare KU’s Olympic sports facilities with the facilities at Stanford.

Bowlsby said the fact Stanford competes in 36 sports makes comparisons tough, but he did touch on the expected additions to KU’s Olympics sports facilities. KU has long discussed the idea of an Olympic Village that would include facilities for track and field and women’s soccer, and Bowlsby’s comments suggested that those plans are still moving along.

“There are an awful lot of the pieces of the puzzle in place,” Bowlsby said, “and it sounds like plans are in place for improvements in a lot of other areas that’ll support the Olympic sports.”

Is the same thing as the little shack they're building for the rule book?

:dunno:
