Is the Rieger Hotel a good date spot?

Depends on what kind of date you're wanting. If you want a quiet table with some privacy, then no, it's not a good date spot.

Rieger is perfect for a "quiet table with some privacy."  I mean, it's no dimly lit with high-backed booth seating.  But, IMO it's one of the better "date spots" in the downtown area.  Make sure to call in advance and make a reservation for the speak easy downstairs.  atmosphere is cool an drinks are incredible.  incredibly expensive too, but worth it IMO.

Perfect date spot unless Jose Peppers is a perfect date spot for you...then you will hate it.

ate there for lunch yesterday.  didn't have a clue what i was ordering b/c the menu is so heavily influenced by mexico and spain- and I don't speak either. but as always the food came out piping hot and i felt like i was sitting in juarez staring across the rio grand.  i love the espinaca too but it's a bit on the spicy side for my non-native palate.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

it really helps to go with a native speaker.  i usually go with my friend (he's chilean).

yep. separate.  call the restuarant manager and ask him how to reserve a spot downstairs.  and then get a dinner reservation accordingly.  at least thats how it was about a year ago.

can also text manifesto directly at 816-536-1325.  They switch up their rules on when they take reservations and when it's first come first serve...usually weekends are no reservations.

Well, YMMV, I guess. When I've been there, it's been loud and everyone has been pretty close to their neighbors, but it's also been full, so maybe it's quieter and more private on off-nights. It would be fine for a date...my point was just that it wouldn't be my first choice for a date if I wanted to have a more serious/intimate conversation. Here's a photo so you can decide if it's what you're looking for.

Manifesto, on the other hand, *is* quiet and private, by design. I think you can also call Manifesto on the text line Phil listed, so you can ask about their current reservation policy. Cocktails are each about $10, but they're hand-crafted and strong and delicious.
