I like parking in a parking lot that accomodates tailgating vs. parking in someone's trashy yard for more money.  As for the stadium, Memorial is really much more dated architecturally and amenities-wise, and the atmosphere is really crappy.  I went to the Texas game in Lawrence in '08, when ku had a relatively good team, and it was the whiniest, lamest crowd for a big-time conference matchup that I've ever seen.  ku fans have the grace and dignity of a $5 whore being beaten by her pimp.

I've been to Memorial Stadium 3 times and none of those times have I've seen campus, either entering the stadium or from my seat. The wonderful, idyllic campus setting can only be enjoyed from entering from one direction and only seen from specific locations within the seating bowl.

Both stadiums are bordered by the campus to the south, both have lots and mostly nothing to the east and west. One has a shanty town to the north, the other has research land. One has had hundreds of millions of dollars of improvements the last 15 years, the other has a track and barcoloungers.

Power Ranking Every BCS College Football Stadium

No. 43 Gaylor Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium: Oklahoma Sooners

For how good Oklahoma has seemingly always been, its stadium has never quite been at the same level of excellence.

There is a lot of history and tradition as far as this football program goes, and the program has an old stadium to go along with that history.

Originally built in 1925, the stadium now seats 82,112 people and it is always filled to capacity.

Tailgating here is some of the best in the country, with the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band leading fans into the stadium.

This is a true college football experience, but it's just not quite on par with the upper-echelon college football teams.

Some type of link would be nice, but if this actually is a list put together from some type of legitimate media source, it's refreshing to see somebody out OU for having the garbage heap of a stadium that they do.

Basically I think it comes down to which team is your favorite. Wildcat fans prefer BSFS, while KU fans prefer Memorial Stadium.

Zenger said two different independent studies showed that Kansas Athletics would likely have had to spend in excess of $50 million to build these facilities. Under the partnership of Thomas and Dru Fritzel and Bliss Sports, however, Kansas Athletics will be able to build them for $39 million, spread out over 30 years.

:facepalm:

Well at least they documented how they are doing it on the cheap (because they have no cash), so I can talk about it now. Meanwhile we've dropped $90 million plus down for new facilities like its nothing.

KU has plenty of cash.  Much more than K-State.  Also, you're comparing a track complex to a football stadium.  Dipshit.

Zenger had to go take out a 30 year note from the Foundation Beems, nothing wrong with borrowing, but ku athletics clearly didn't have the cash.

KU's athletic budget and athletic revenue is several million more than K-State's, and that's with KU football losing money the past few years.

No, that's butthurt K-State fan BS.  The project is being privately funded and leased back to KU so that KU can potentially have concerts and events there that will sell alcohol.

The Rock Chalk project — which KU officials have said would cost KU about $40 million to build, but is being constructed and financed by Fritzel and leased back to the university — will include several components:

• a 7,336-seat track and field stadium designed to receive the highest Class I certification from track and field’s international governing body;

• a 2,156-seat soccer field;

• a 1,037-seat softball stadium that also will include a 12,715-square-foot indoor softball training facility;

• about 4,500 square feet of locker room space for the facilities, plus concession stands and other guest amenities.

• about 1,500 paved parking spaces, with a large grassy area to accommodate overflow parking.

Zenger said KU officials will use the facility — particularly the track and field stadium that is expected to become just the fifth U.S. track to meet the top international standard — to host both conference and national events.

“We’re going to try to host any championship that comes our way,” Zenger said, “and that means all the way up to the NCAA Championships.”

Stanley Redwine, head coach of KU’s track and field and cross country teams, said he expects the new facility to be a regular host of the Big 12 Track and Field Championships and to receive strong consideration for national-level youth championships for events sanctioned by USA Track & Field.

“I believe Lawrence could be really huge with track and field,” Redwine said. “There already is an interest here, and now we’ll have the facilities.”

even if they had money, do you think they're going to reallocate dollars earmarked for the basketball program?  :lol:
serious question, does ku have a business school?
