I still remember when Self left for Kansas, Illini fans were convinced there was no way he would leave their "national power" for a "lateral move." Then when he did, they let the hatred flow...which Weber completely played along with. Remember the Bill Self funeral?

It was a total repeat of the Roy to UNC saga that had played out just days before (except Self didn't have a Roy funeral).

Hey K-State fans, I'm not here to troll your board, just wanted to let you know that Mike Thomas has already contacted Frank Martin about replacing Coach Weber.  The two sides have agreed to meet and talk after Kansas State's appearance in the NCAA tournament concludes.  Right now, Thomas' list includes Martin, Shaka Smart, and Anthony Grant.

I know programs like yours are used to getting stepped on as up and comers make their way to the national stage, but think of it as a good move for a coach that has done a lot for your program, if Martin chooses to move on.

This isn't rumor mongering by me, if you search the Scout network you'll find that I'm not a troll, and my information is very reliable.  Just passing along information I would like to have if I was a fan of a school in a similar position.

Good Luck next weekend and I'll update you as more information makes it my way.

Didn't Scottie Pippen go to your school?

pretty sure it was larry bird.

Top 15 team next year, brand new basketball facilities, and Currie will match whatever the Illini throw at him.

Don't kid yourselves if you don't think we've got the cash to keep Martin around.

He's worth not losing to Illini or some other mid tier school from a major conference.

We've yet to see Currie's decision making when it comes to picking coaches......I'd prefer to not see it start with a replacement for FM.

If Frank can get a good job after this year that will pay him better than we pay him currently then he should definitely take it.

A) He can't
B) I'm glad he can't. I love him.

If the Cats make a run to the Sweet 16 this year (which isn't that far fetched), we'll see who comes calling.

I'm glad there aren't as many potential suitors as there could be. His tyrannical image scares a good number of schools off. Good for us.

What is this Illinois you speak of?  Must be a pretty crappy school.  I mean I haven't seen them in any bowl games or NCAA tourneys recently.  I heard a lot of kids from Illinois go to KSU-east because it is a better school than what Ill. has to offer but I dunno.  I mean, I know Bill Self used Illinois as a stepping stone job before coming over to a real conference and TSCing with us.  I think that is the only time Ill have ever really been good.

Anyway, good luck on your coaching search.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

would be great to make a run, but anyone that's going to be looking for a coach will already be looking

I only have three main thoughts on the subject:

1) I think we could match whatever Illinois would be willing to offer, but would Currie actually do it?  I don't know the answer to that, and I'm not comfortable guessing either.

2) My observation is that Big Ten schools tend to be pretty image conscious.  I'm not sure a ranting/raving, f-bomb dropping, arm waving sideline crazy person matches what those schools typically look for in a coach.

3) Illinois isn't a gigantic step up.  It has it's advantages, but in the grand scheme of things, a job like Arkansas or NC State would have been a better fit for Frank last year, and he really didn't get a sniff at either (that we knew about).  He obviously got locked out at Miami, too.

Honestly, right now, given where Frank is at in his career, he's moving up the list of sought after coaches.  However, his personality is going to turn a lot of people off at these 'good' jobs because AD's can get a lot of good coaches without his "Frankness".

He's good enough for an Illinois, but Illinois can get someone that would be less of a potential headache for the same or less money.  All things considered, that's what they'll probably do.  Just like every other job that's potentially 'better' than KSU.
