I think there's some confusion here. HIIT is like doing 10 rounds of 10-20 second sprints up a hill, with 2 minutes or so of rest in between. It's probably the best way to do cardio.

So, all i have to do is exercise for 100 seconds a day to get in the best shape of my life? Do I pay you now?

Incline of one and a 4.3 pace burns nothing but fat. Running at a higher pace can kill fat and muscle. #Science

I like doing intervals. 60 seconds of jump rope, 15 second rest, 60 seconds of jump steps, 15 second break, down and back bear crawls, 15 second break, repeat...

mocat, here is the tonya harding workout:

3 minutes of walking @ 3.0 mph on a 12-15% incline to warm up, 5 minutes of ~8-10 min/mile (target heart rate about 165-170), 3 minutes @ 3.0 mph incline, 5 minutes running again... stop whenever you get tired.

if youre trying to lose a little chub, you need a caloric deficit. walking at an incline does 2 things: 1- mentally, youre walking. you can do another 5 minute run. you just had 3 minutes of walking. whats 5 minutes? 2- it burns a good number of calories.

its not like the miracle workout but for a treadmill and 20-30 minutes you burn a lot of calories.

do the HIIT when you can do 5 cycles of that and feel like you can run more.

I do a push/pull day once a week, so twice a week lifting to failure. Then I do spin class once a week. I'm in the best shape of my life and I don't have to run anymore...it's fantastic.

the answer is HIIT, don't listen to the rest of these skinny-fat knuckleheads, mocat. When I did stuff like that, I really enjoyed doing tabata intervals on stationary bikes or indoor tracks.

Basically everything I have read in the last two years says that HIIT burns more for longer and you have to work out less time.

Do everything in circuits.   Do it fast and hard, then GTFO of there and go flex in front of some girls with your newly huge muscles(that are also visible now thanks to the fat loss that also happens with it).

But when you do HIIT you need to be going literally about as hard as you can for those 10-30 seconds. It should be very uncomfortable. I pretend I'm running from a bear. Tomorrow I'm swimming and it will be sharks.

I HIIT until light headed, sit in my truck until I trust my arms, then drive home.  With jog/sprint interval warms included, that entire process takes about 45min.
