no you guys are right. we should just scrap our constitution and play it by ear. HOW EXCITING!!
We're just saying that it's a little unfair to hold a relatively new democracy like Egypt to a standard ("never suspend certain parts of the constitution") that the US didn't didn't meet as recently as ~150 years after the Constitution was created.

fair enough but do they really have to act like this?  i mean, rape circles and they also stabbed the white student filming the protest.  seemed like a nice guy, no reason for that.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I think a new constitutional convention would be a great idea. I mean, a lot has changed on the world since the first one, and people are a lot smarter now than they were back then.
makes sense and cents.

Where would CON-CONV II take place? Philadelphia had the first, so some other city/town/village should get the next. Vegas perhaps?

So if this deadline hits, is the military going to threaten to actually kill Morsi or how does all of this work?

It's kind of funny. No one seems to actually know the exact process by which Morsi could be removed or even resign. It's such a clusterfuck.

i really don't know what you do FR, but are you able to do you normal day to day work? Or are you pretty much BBSing on the clock?

I do both in flurries when it's possible.

But in all seriousness I am a little worried now. I wouldn't be shocked if we started evacuating more people soon.

How likely are you to get evacuated, and what does that process look like?  Do armed guards take you to the airport or something?

Mrs Rex is five months pregnant, so our situation is unique. If I think she's gonna be affected, we're bolting. And it's easy to get out. We have a fixer so we don't have to stand in lines. And no need for armed guards. No one is targeting Americans.

To clarify, there's already an "authorized evacuation" in place, meaning family members of embassy personnel have a ticket waiting if they want it.

They won't evac everyone unless we reach a stage where mobility is so limited that we can't access essential goods.

We're in no real danger or anything. Worst case, we'll be uncomfortable for a few days/weeks or fly home if it gets really bad. Mrs Rex grew up in a civil war. She's hilariously calm about the current status here.

Seriously, though, how big of a hit is this to the Brotherhood in other Arab states?  I'd assume pretty big.

Felix, you would be able to participate in my constitutional convention from your checkpoint. Just let that sink in for a bit.

Heck, maybe pass this idea along to your Egyptian friends. It's a free country.

Huge. The MB is basically fighting for its existence right now.

The people in my neighborhood call themselves Hezbikanaba (a play on Lebanon's "party of god" that means "party of the couch").

Hmm. A michigancat Egyptian presidency with FR working the strings behind the scenes.

BSAC, time to fire up the goEMAW.com PAC (PAK)?

Come on.  This is clearly wrong.  Also, arab qausi democratic despots ain't what they used to be.  How freaking long did Arafat provide corrupt and incompetent leadership while simultaneously delivering nothing on the "get us a country" front?

surely they are aware of couch burnings?  Do you at least have a musket and a coon skin cap?
