From Al Ahram:http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/0/65115/Egypt/0/The-circle-of-hell-Inside-Tahrirs-mob-sexual-assau.aspx

Quote
Over the past two years, activists and human rights groups have been able to work out the pattern by which these attacks take place.

According to El-Shafie, a group of men usually form two lines and begin snaking through the square, while chanting and singing. Once they find a victim - usually one or two women standing alone - the groups forms a u-shape and then a complete circle around them, trapping them inside.

Hatem Tallima, activist and member of the Revolutionary Socialists, said the group then forms three concentric rings around the victim.

“The men in the circle immediately surrounding the woman begin to strip the girl. The second circle includes men who claim that they are helping the girl. The third circle try to distract the people in the square from what is happening,” Tallima said.

Masa Amir, researcher at Nazra for Feminist Studies NGO, says that there is a clear division of labour between the attackers.

Also, what goes on at these protests.  Is it pretty much just a bunch of people sitting around saying "BOO Morsi!" and another guy says "I agree. Morsi's gotta go!"

That, and some raping.

I'm assuming these protests are predominantly male, and I am now wondering if this comment means we're watching an episode of "Oz" where all of the characters are are outside, and we are looking down on it from the sky.

There are legit grass root movements (like tahrir bodyguard) self-policing these things. Yesterday, they set up a "women only" area right in the center of the action. You'll probably read more about this soon, but there are groups intentionally organizing mob attacks for political reasons.

Alright, so basically I'm gonna get to see another revolution. Not gonna lie. I did not expect that statement from the Army.

So, are we behind Morsy (sp) still, or the army, or both?  I mean, it sjould be both.  How could this possibly go wrong?

Felix, if they start to revolt, are you going to be able to get out of there, or are you to hunker down in your apartment?

Stay safe, man.

Depends. Right now, it's looking like a soft coup. So we'll probably just ride it out. I really can't describe the surreal atmosphere here.

At very least, respect the beards.  Otherwise you may end up in the middle of three concentric rings of rapers.

The Morsy(sp) guy wishes.  Would cut this down pretty well. I mean, could you imagine rampaging during a Sand Aggie dust up?  Nope!

Felix, get out there and party.  Looks like a blast.

It's bananas right now, even in my ritzy button up neighborhood. Fireworks, roving bands of merry-making protestors, people just hanging out at every square and waving flags and singing and dancing. Its like a cross between a World Cup crowd and a city wide block party.

Not knowing much here, or reading everything linked/posted, the dynamic here seems really unstable.

If I get the order of operations here, it seems like this is how Egypt is handling power:

1) Revolt and demand ouster of leader
2) Get military behind you
3) Get new leader
4) Repeat if desired

If I'm oversimplifying this, or misunderstanding it, please let me know.
