Your Political Affiliation
« on: February 14, 2012, 10:38:00 AM »
I've been reading through some of the threads, and I want to get a sense of what people associate with on this board.

Personally, I don't *like* to affiliate myself with either, because I think the two party system is rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). Always has been, always will be.

So, I guess you could me "independent", but I don't hold some in-between or extremist view (mostly just sounds lame).

I'm a registered republican.  I used to say I was socially liberal and fiscally conservative until the conservatives got destroyed in the elections a few years back and they all decided to start calling themselves libertarians and claiming the same fiscal conservative/social liberal values while not actually voting that way.  really turned the term "libertarian" into a pile of meaningless crap.

Independent affiliation (I'm not registered to either party).  But I tend to vote against people who wear their social conservatism on their sleeves, so I vote Democrat more often than not.

Yea, me too. I'm a fiscally conservative independent, and I only support Obama because he's cool and I hate tea-baggers 'cause they're fiscally responsible a-holes.

Indy.

I'd say it's a fairly even split between leaning left and right depending on the issues. I find that the issues I feel most strongly about have me leaning left though.

I'm glad to see people taking Indy. I think there is a shift going on in not only the the older generation (gen X) but the technology generation as well in that more and more people are becoming unaffilliated with any certain party. I think it can only do positive things not only for the political landscape, but the overall social landscape as well.

And I agree, sd. Libertarian is a crap term; that's why I didn't put it up there.

So you instead vote for those who wear their distaste of social conservatism on their sleeves?

lot of weird "i don't want to seem biased" responses.

i'm a democrat, and i would have voted for hitler if he were running as a democrat against jesus.  (but clearly, jesus would have been a democrat, so that example kinda fails)

Yes, because I'm pretty much against against everything that Republicans stand for on that front.  Vehemently.

The NRA once called me to listen to a recording and respond to a poll.  They hung up on me because I went off on them.

I've never voted for a republican simply for their 1950's social views.  I've voted for two democrats total, and generally lean their direction.

The two party systm is the worst though.

Republicans would likely win every election for the next 20 years if they would update their views to the current century.

This, although I've voted for some moderate Republicans at the county level.

Ron Paul is the reason I started to get into politics. He raised real issues that concerned me- Debt, Spending, Foreign Policy.

I would say independent.

also a registered republican, and also completely hate the party now. They are so far out of touch that sometimes ill watch fox just for the lolz. Not that it really matters anyway, since all the politicians are bought and paid for. As long as the revolving door is propped open, your vote doesnt count
