I for one immediately thought it was men he was dealing with. After all, he said one of the criers was a boss.
Lolz!  It can only be women crying.  Don't try to turn this into a sexist thing. :dubious:  I am so glad there is only one woman at my place of bussiness.  Even my wife can't stand other women in the work place.  there is no place for crying at work.  Tell them to go home and get their composure in check.  If it really is a crisis then wtf are they at work for.   :flush:  This should not be an issue.  You can fix this and no one will fault you for it!

Make a paper airplane. Write "turn that frown, upside down" on the wings with a big smiley face. Toss in their direction. Everyone loves smiley faces and airplanes.

We are moving offices around, so I have sit in a cube for a few weeks starting today.  I'm sitting in this new cube for 15 minutes before I hear crying coming from the cube next to me.  Bad thing is that I have to walk through the cube next to me, with the crying lady, to get out of my cube.  She's still crying and I need to leave for a meeting in 30 minutes.  What do I do?  Do I ask her what is wrong? Do I just walk by and act like I don't know she's crying?  She kinda-sorta works under me.  I've never had to deal with this before.

I would just ask her what is wrong and send her home to deal with it. It's not like she's working anyway.

You MUST ignore it.

Set the precedent now, that you are not to be bothered by her crap.

Yes, but don't simply act like you don't know she's crying, act like you know and you don't rough ridin' care.  Feel free to throw in a little mild disgust, it's warranted.

If she respected any of her coworkers at all, she'd take her crying to the bathroom or some other deserted location

it's important to note that, while you can ignore her crying, you need to realize that you're no better than she is.  that's why you clowns work together.   that's why you sit together.  your company hires the same breed of clown.  the self realization that comes with understanding you're on the same level with a women who finds it appropriate to sob uncontrollably in her cube, has to be a tough pill to swallow.

good news?  it's over with.  you're better off knowing things such as this and you can now move on to whatever meaningless existence you have dug for yourself.

I see you missed the part where I said we are shuffling offices and they are redoing the office that I am moving into, so I have to sit here while that gets completed.

You might not be able to ignore her, but at least half of your staff will be unable to work because they keep hearing crocodile tears over in your cube bawling her brains out. Some of them are going to even give her attention. You need to send that crying bitch home on sick leave. Nothing good can come of her staying. Some of your coworkers might even think that you are the one bawling hysterically because she is sharing your cube.

Ignoring it is bad, giving her a shoulder to cry on would be worse. Engage her in conversation and get to the bottom of her issue quickly then give her the option to leave for the day to get her crap together and make it clear that her behavior is disruptive.

I just ignored it.  The way our cubes are set up are so that you have your own little office, only soft walls that are 5' high and no door.  No one else was talking to her as all of her co-workers are on a different floor and I'm the only one near her that she knows.  She eventually stopped crying and got back to work.  In 3 weeks she'll be back in her large file room with 10 other people and I'll be 5 floors up and rarely see her.
