The funeral hoome?  Well, I had met a guy, Paul (elderly man, like your coach) and his wife and they had retired from Chicago a  workin with the dead.  They opend a mom and pop joint to do funerals and I went to work a drivin for them.  Not at first but later.  I was makin good money ($10 per hour).  I even had the use of the company car which was good on acount my moped had gone on the fritz and loked up like 2 dogs.  Paul was a good man.  Honest.  proper.  I remember when he got my attenion is when he promised RC cola and Moon Pies (limitless..his words...not mine) if we could produce a certain number of funerals in a month.  I think we felt just short and we had 10's and 2's all month except a couple of days.  Well he still came through with a couple of cases.  I can remmeber the positive atmosphere there when Paul came in with 3 or 4 cases of moon Pies hoisted over his shoulder!  We got mice becase everywhere people went they had a moon pie in their hands for the next month and a half.  We all gained wiegth.  Cadaver Bill (embalmer)  had RC cola stashed in the cooler downstairs and we would sneak out and get a couple ever other day or so. 
 
It was a magical place to work for a while.  It was great when business would pick up and we'd get a little overtime.  My wardrobe got a lot better.  I had several suitpants and stuff that I could sell to this day if any of you ever need a pair of trousers.  I don't have the jackets.  Just the trousers.  a nice selection of tasteful belts and some shoes and socks.  Maybe a pair of cufflinks or two.  I'll let em go cheap if you guys want to pm me. 

Paul was good about spreading the money around.  he already made his and his old lady  could cook!  Burnt sugar pie!  man what i'd give. 

It went south thoughliek so much of my life. I'll be right back.  I got to record Matlock tonit.

I don't know what that mean.  But I'll tell you this.  There was  a time when Jack Blasingame was on the GRAVY TRAIN.  Get throwed off?  Sure i did.  i awlays do.  but for a while i was livin like a king.  Company car,  dancin every friday night at the VFW.  I eventually made "Lead Driver."  hell I practically run the joint when Paul and the Mrs. went out of town for a conference one day. 

I would help sell and talk to em while they was a cryin and boohoo and all that.  Hell I could do it!  Did Stan give me part of the commision?  No!  not a damn nickle!  But that is fine.  He got his.  a lot of them did for that matter.  I won't go into detail until the limit runs out but don't cross jack Blasingame.

Water under the brige trucker....water under the brige.  Paul and I had a good relationship until he hired the Kid. I won't say his name becasue he is well connected.  His daddy is money and his uncle is a local building inspector.  But I was sposed to trane him to be a driver (i was gonna stay on as LEAD driver) incase I couldn't drive.  Paul said,"Jack you are the Lead Driver so I need you to train an assisaint driver in case you are ever out of pocket." 

Well the Kid wanted to use the car ever other weekend.  NOw understand that I kept the car in perfect conditoin.  The kid didn't.  Got in trouble with the law. 

that's another story.

sure.  there are a few.  I had my share of runins with the law and such.  Ole Romance was a name i got in Memphis when i was young and green.  I had a lot of pocket money and got into a LOT of grabass around the pool hall that i used to haint.  Even had one SOB pull a blade on me one night.  We had a beer.....Jack Blasingame Style....for the first time.

Lots of memories.  Like a flood.
