I have taken pepper spray before (by choice for a news story), and it hurts. A lot. I'd never use it on someone unless I feared for my life. Watching that video, you can clearly see that none of those students were threatening anyone. You just don't do that crap.

I haven't payed too much attention to the this movement up until now. But these events at UC Davis are very upsetting. I was fine to just stand aside and ignore this stuff, but this is repulsive.
