I don't understand people without kids that choose to live in suburbs because of the bad schools in the city.

that's easy.  the answer is that they are lying about the reason they chose to live in the suburbs.

Truth be told, in JOCO, the only differences are:

Money - depends where in JoCo, lots of public school :kstategrad: in some areas
Uniforms - yuck
Religion being taught - yuck, especially at elementary school level

Just give me a neighborhood in KC that you're referring to. Seems pretty easy to me. :dunno:
It's not an entire neighborhood. It's pockets of houses in several neighborhoods.  Also, I am not real strong on where the defining lines of the neighborhoods on the mo side are.

How do you know that the people who live in these pockets of shitty houses aren't sending their kids to public school?

if you want your kid to have a soul, public school. education can be had anywhere.

Kind of harsh.

the last time i heard someone say "going yard" was on the laurie's high school city league baseball team that was full of people rick daris knew.  we won the championship at cico (of course) on the blue field (i think).  i ripped a single and scored a run.  final score was 3-1.  we only lost one game and, boy, was coach laurie pissed.  very competitve guy.

country gift shop was a pretty decent team because they always had two pitchers that could "bring heat". my senior year the best team was my team, but we sadly got dq'd for using a player not on our roster during the playoffs in a game. we had one of our friends that was a full year older be our coach and then told him not to show up for anything and coached ourselves. never had a practice. had to have set a mprd record for number of trick pickoff attempts and batters that were thrown at on purpose. sadly my fastball was not fast enough to hit the people that i really wanted to. also, did you know that coach laurie's nickname was "the rock". also, he didn't go to private school. straight public all the way through for him.

I know a poster who had the walk-off game winning hit in the championship game for that team's title.  He is awesome.

Kinda figure private schools would be more into souls and whatnot considering many are religiously affiliated.  :dunno:

Clear misinterpretation of souls here. FFF isn't referring to the religious kind or the hip black person kind fwiw.

I'll be honest, I have to live in KCMO and it sucks. I don't want to live out in the middle of nowhere, so we decided to buy a house in the brookside area, and it's not that great. sure, the house looks cool and has that "old charm", but it always needs work (knew that when we got into it) and the neighborhood isn't that great even though the houses are  :kstategrad:
and you bet your ass I'll be sending my future children to private (catholic) school. no way in hell are they getting caught up in the crap storm that is the KCMO school district.

really, most big cities in the country are like this. if you even have a little bit of money you send them to private school. only the poorest of the poor get stuck in public school. now, for places like JOCO or manhattan, public school all the way.

I learned everything I need to know about this debate from Uncle Phil when Ashley started going to public school without telling him and Aunt Viv.

When thinking about the private school ask yourself this question "It's not what I know is there, it's about what I know is not there".  If there is something at the public school (bad influences on your kids, shitty teachers) that concerns you, but is not at the private school, go the private school route.  If there isn't anything at the public school that concerns you that you could avoid via private schools, go the public school route and spend the extra cash on other areas to improve your kids life, educational or not, but preferably some extracurricular that teaches them discipline.
