the last time i heard someone say "going yard" was on the laurie's high school city league baseball team that was full of people rick daris knew.  we won the championship at cico (of course) on the blue field (i think).  i ripped a single and scored a run.  final score was 3-1.  we only lost one game and, boy, was coach laurie pissed.  very competitve guy.

country gift shop was a pretty decent team because they always had two pitchers that could "bring heat". my senior year the best team was my team, but we sadly got dq'd for using a player not on our roster during the playoffs in a game. we had one of our friends that was a full year older be our coach and then told him not to show up for anything and coached ourselves. never had a practice. had to have set a mprd record for number of trick pickoff attempts and batters that were thrown at on purpose. sadly my fastball was not fast enough to hit the people that i really wanted to. also, did you know that coach laurie's nickname was "the rock". also, he didn't go to private school. straight public all the way through for him.

Public school kids:

How big of a hassle were metal detectors?  Do people end up becoming really efficient with them, or is it like the airport where the same dumbasses always forget to take off their braided belt?

TIA

It's true that Country Gift Shop was always really solid, but if we're talking about MPRD baseball toughies it would be foolish in this discussion to overlook Royal Purple Paint & Body (1999) imo.  A really strong leadoff hitter, good fielding, strong older bro/younger bro connection, and plus, Jason is going to make a great snowcone catch out in center against Parker-Hannifin in the semis.  If you're a gambling man you should probably bet the farm on RPP&B because they're going to stage an incredible comeback against the Diamondbacks (losery team who couldn't even get a sponsor, lol).  If you're a drinking man, tell Ryan before the game and he'll bring an extra thermos full of beer that he stole from his dad and he'll totally let you take swigs off it when coach goes out to the mound to settle down the pitcher.

if you send your kids to public school you only have to buy 3-5 pairs of khakis and 3-5 pairs of white polos.

if you send them to public school you have to deal with skinny jeans and little girl t-shirts every 6 mos.

I went to a KC area private school and the main things I noticed are that I feel much more prepared in english/math/writing, and less prepared in physics and chemistry.

The rate of kids who went to college from my class is like 99% or something absurd, but I feel like that has more to do with kids being able to afford college tuition than it does getting scholarships.

If you are in the Blue Valley school district, there really isn't a need to go private other than wanting to say your kids go to a private school. Many Johnson County public schools are just as good, and sometimes better at preparing kids for college.  Most kids attend Aquinas/Rockhurst/St James purely because they come from Catholic families.

Also, lots of dumbass parents who think it's more elite to send their kids to a out of state school like mizzou, colorado, iowa or SLU than to go to a ku/k-state.

If you send your kids to private school in Manhattan then you are a moron.  Just recently toured the new MHS renovations and it is clearly the most elite high school in the state now.  State-of-the-art crap, and that ain't just the townie in me talking.  And if you want to see just how good/well-supplied public schools are in Kansas, or how many different opportunities kids here have to pursue different avenues of interest, just go anywhere else.  Especially the south.  Holy eff.

Yeah, Kansas has a pretty good public school system. If you live in a state with an SEC school, go private. Otherwise, public would be fine in most instances.

Pretty simple.  If you want your daughter to be a whore and your son to sell drugs, send them to a public school.

This also helps greatly in the son funding his own way to a public university.  Go Cats.

I don't think catholic school should count as private.  It should be it's own weird third category.

Never understood why someone would live in a place shitty enough to not give a eff about their schools then pay a private school.  Just rough ridin' move people.  Priorities and stuff.

KCMO is a fantastic example.  Lots of good options within commuting distance, yet people still live in KCMO.  If you aren't cripplingly poor, I don't understand.

There's a lot of value to living in a city. Like, commuting generally sucks. I can understand how people don't understand the appeal, but if I returned to KC I would prefer to live in KCMO if I could afford the right neighborhood and private schools.

Conversely, I don't understand people without kids that choose to live in suburbs because of the bad schools in the city.

I get that people like convenience of living in a higher pop density.  Just don't get people barely scraping by so that they can pay the tuition bill when they could move 5 miles west and be much more financially secure. Financial security is a much more basic need than having a cool indie movie theater within walking distance of your house.  So is a quality public school dist.

I came to the realization the other day that I very well could live my entire life without living in a hip/urban environment  :frown:
