speaking of good grifts: the person in the 1920's or whatever who came up with the mascot wearing a sailor (?) hat and sold it to like, every single university. an all-time grift that would not be possible today. hats off ( :D ) to that grifter

You mean that it would be ripped off instantly before the seller could get to them all independently?

So yeah, it’d fly today because the buyers definitely wouldn’t care about doing the same unoriginal stuff everyone else is. It wouldn’t even be a grift really.

Yeah. Nike's business model. Y'all should see the volleyball jerseys they've conned some teams into getting. Not all schools have them this ugly, but they're dog crap and a lot of schools have the same dog crap jerseys

I don't know that the sailor hat motif was necessarily dog crap, to me it reads more as this dude was kind of a one trick pony but he milked it for all he could. Like imagine he gets around to NC State and they're like "we're thinking like a pack of several wolves where you can't really pick out any individual wolf but you can see several sets of eyes and teeth?"

And then it cuts to pawn stars meme and he's like "best I can do is wolf in a sailor hat"

College sports wasn't really a business back then. It was also much more regional.

No one thinks it's dog crap, just marvelling at the gentleman who sold the same design to dozens of schools.

The "sailor caps" are actually stylistic representations of frosh caps fwiw. Its a common "collegiate" motif. Same thing for sweaters with the college's initials on it.

There was one guy that had a distinct style and was fairly prolific in terms of drawing similar animal heads + sailor cap but he was far from the only one. If you're running Small Pennant Company, LTD selling your product to colleges across the country you are going to use the same graphic as much as possible to save on costs. It wasn't like schools had an official logo to identify/ differentiate themselves either.

So now when schools go looking for vintage logos they come across the same neat logo from Small Pennant Company.

I'm interested to see what they have for us because we already do a ton of retro stuff

Yes, most of what I see looks like common stuff I have, ‘47 I think.

That’s a good grift.

Wasn't '47, just something sold on the rack at dillard's in wichita. The white one worn at og pak was from the place in aggieville where all the kaws places are now.

Ballard's?

Who is the guy on twitter that thinks his opinion is important enough to rank K-State fan twitter accounts?

I guess I don't follow any of these superfan pages.

Don't know, haven't seen it but last night I was marvelling at how Bookcat has become a big fan account with the K-State Family crowd. His tweets aren't my cup of tea.

I believe John Philip Sousa pulled a similar grift, but with shitty marches.

Probably why the name of our march is "Kansas Wildcats", KU probably passed on that one since they got a good deal on "Hog Calling Time in Nebraska"

Can someone recap the two twitter controversies from yesterday, this best twitter accounts list and whatever happened with Monty Putnam? Are they connected? I missed both things.
