I don't think a general policy of "don't do social media stuff in K-State uniform" is a very controversial policy.
And I assumed he was discussing it because he was asked directly about it, but I haven't listened to the question, just the snippet of his answer.
Anyway, I don't like Gene but I can't get my feathers ruffled up about this.
It wouldn't be if that was the actual policy, but it isn't, at least it wasn't before last week.
Now I did listen again and he said or meant to say that they can't wear the uniform when promoting product, which is a lot more understandable but, SURPRISE!, it is more regressive than what a lot of other schools are doing. Some schools are requiring their athletes to ask first, others have rules as to what specific promotions the players can do while in uniform. Saying that you just can't as a blanket move puts us at some level of unnecessary disadvantage.
He answered the question because he made himself available to talk about it. He zoomed in with KSNT and that's the only quote they used from that interview which means talking about this was likely the premise of his availability and likely all he was asked about. He didn't need to make himself available for this.
