McGruder & Judge 0 minutes?
« on: February 28, 2010, 12:39:05 AM »
What's up?  Anything more than "must not be practicing hard"?  Radio announcers/newspaper "reporters" made no mention of this.

Yep, Judge gets very few minutes normally, but Grudsy usually plays some.  Lil strange.  Could have used McOreb today.

Honestly, it hadn't really occurred to me that our McD's All American didn't play.  Wow.  Pinch me.

Didn't Judge play in the final minute? I thought was him that keep a ball alive on a missed free throw that went out of bounds to Missouri. He then left the game right before Pullen got mugged for the steal and the layup.

My understanding was that Wally and Rodney bought in so much that Frank was sold out.  It's possible that I misunderstood.

On the pregame Underwood said that Sutton's resurgence on the boards and on offense has cut into McGrud's minutes. As far as judge is concerned, I was hoping a game against this smaller line up was one where he'd come in and maybe show his stuff, but no such luck. Frank seems to prefer JHR going in and getting in everyone's way...which is fine because it seems to work.

I think about JHR down low and this is exactly what comes to mind.

Not sure where things stand with Curtis, so I'm going stay away from that.

why would he with 30+ minutes of combo guarding up for grabs?

Exactly.

And again, this is easy.  Frank has always been fair, but he's also given leaway to experienced players.  All the frosh have had plenty of opportunities to earn minutes and bypass their teammates for more playing time.  And that time has fluctuated all year, and I doubt it is a surprise to any of them, the history has shown that Frank is pretty clear on what is expected and why people play, etc.

But Lou's minutes, Chris' minutes, and Denis' minutes are all going to be up for grabs next year.  I'm sure these guys understand that and will be competing for those minutes.  And if they don't understand that, they can go the way of Anderson and Brown.

might as well, do this now.

imo rotation goes this-a-way:

bold is predicted starter

comboguard
(guarding pg w/ exception for dom potentially guarding) Pullen 30+/irving/spradling 10
comboguard (guarding sg) Russel 10-15/dom 10/mcgruds10-15
swing dom 10-15/jamsam 10-15/mcgruds 10
pf kelly 20/jamsam 10-15/
block wally 20/kelly/jhr/asprilla 20

could see jamsam staying in 6th man role and either jhr or wally starting for the tip.  dunno.

min/pg Prediction
1) pullen
2) kelly
3) dom
4) jam
5) mcgruds (russel getting yanked and mcgruds playing swing)

Bench
6th Man- Wally
loser of Russel/Mcgruds
winner of jhr/asprilla
winner of irving/sprads
loser of jhr/asprilla
loser of irving/sprads

ENERGY jr.- ojeleye

Make no mistake, we will go 10 deep for a while.  Will be interesting to see:  if Frank really believes what he's said about jamar at the 3, and if he does, if that means we are going to start to get big really fast (and crowded at the 2/3).  If i had to guess, I think Jamar starts and Wally becomes first off the bench and starts getting schooled on hitting quick turnarounds/elbows and gets with c-kel to learn some moves.

If so, we could be throwing out some vintage oSu tweener specials and just out-physical/out-length/out-athletic pretty much anyone.  Then again, we already lost a TON of speed at pg and the size will compound our transition game problems.

I could see Irving starting at the 1 and Pullen at the 2, but rotating duties based on the matchups we are looking for.  Especially with Irving's knack for defense, although Russell looked tons better @tech.

Irving just needs some confidence offensively.  Besides "scoring the ball" I was pretty pleased with how he played yesterday.

I just suspect that russell's size will be alluring assuming irving is what he is and nick gets better.  (What I assume)
