Good lord - going into the 5th set and Carter has 16 points for KSU and 18 points for Baylor (13 hitting errors and five service errors)

I only saw the last two sets - that was some sloppy ass volleyball. But, a win's a win (especially over a ranked team)

I missed it as well, checking out the replay right now. First win over Baylor since 2018!

I might go back and watch the first two sets - presumably we actually played well. But the last two sets were dog crap and the fifth was a contest to see which team would make fewer errors. Four of our 15 points were Baylor spraying the ball everywhere and six of Baylor's 13 points were K-State errors. Not coincidentally, we only had one SE in the fifth set (and 14 in the first four), which was arguably the difference.

Carter isn't a 6 rotation OH.  That's no crime, there's really very few that are.  Cats are scrapping against Iowa St, fun to watch.  Home digs look sweet.

We played well, but it was also nice to see another team lay a complete turd in serve receive and just play bad overall. They had 30 errors (23 unforced) - that's pretty terrible.

Yeah my goodness ISU offered next to nothing tonight, and they never seemed all that bothered. Thought we looked sharp. Nice W!   :emawkid:

Probably not, but still a chance. The ISU win will give us a boost in the RPI (currently No. 92), but the issue is that we're only 10-6 with a pretty tough schedule ahead of us. The opportunities for upsets are there with matches against UCF (No. 31), BYUx2 (No. 16), KUx2 (No. 25), Texas (No. 4) and Houston (No. 47). Can't drop matches to TTx2 (No. 89) or OUx2 (No. 116) unless we pull off multiple upsets. If we could sweep OU/TT and go 3-4 in the other 7 matches against good teams, we'd be at 17-10 and that would give us a fighting chance.

But, as inconsistent as we've played, I wouldn't bet on that outcome.

Maybe our new arena has a debilitating affect on teams because BYU (like ISU) played terrible. I'd guess we had close to 10 bad setter/attacker connections and that 2/3 of them somehow fell for points. We did play very well - best match of the year that I've seen, particularly taking into account a top 10 team.

We had 9 blocks, but BYU had 19 unforced errors, 14 of which were spraying the ball out of bounds.

Hopefully we can repeat tomorrow...

Tightening the rotation - going to a 5-1 with Izzi and sticking with Carter/Clinton at the OH spot seems to have unleashed a new team.

I don't know if BYU is a legit top 10 team, but, if they are, we can play with just about anyone when we're on.

Not only those changes but playing a DS and a libero at the same time have made us dynamic defensively. I also noticed how much better we are at getting two blockers on hitters, we were dreadful at that earlier in the season.

I was critical of Izzi earlier, but my goodness she's every bit the player who was all conference Pac 12 last season, she's really fun to watch. Not only does she set a good ball but she the best attacking setter we've had since Disney Bronnenberg. I also love that we have found more attacking options other than Carter and Bolding. Carter still isn't what she was but she's making it work.

After set 2 BYU looked completely shell shocked and it didn't look or feel like they wanted to be there.

Haven't had many chances to see Izzi in the front row, but she's a foot shorter than Schmidt and her reach was higher on the block. Obviously, Schmidt is no high jumper, but still.

And, yeah Sims has definitely helped with passing.

Texas isn't the powerhouse they've been in the past - genuinely excited to see us play them.
