I’ve never thought about my internet’s speed. I just tested mine on my phone. I have 20/1. The picture looks fine on my 10 years old HD TV that I watch about an hour a month.

So, my dad has a shop about 40 feet from his house that he'd like to have wifi in. He just has a basic router that won't quite reach to the shop. A mesh routing system wouldn't be the best for this situation, correct? Maybe just a repeater/extender closer to the shop?

I think it could work. would allow you to place the base nearer the shop and the satellite ones in the shop and on the other side of the house.

I feel like a mesh would still have trouble reaching, but the best chance of making it work is to have a node in the house closest to where the shop is

yeah, 40 ft may be close enough to just run Cat7 or whatever over there to a mesh satellite?

Running a hardwire would probably be last resort. I love my mesh routers at my house and I could set one up in the window nearest the shop and then another in the window of the shop probably.

Using a repeater or extender would essentially be a second network, right? If he left his house and went to the shop, he'd have to switch networks?

No one here needs Cat 7 cable in their home, and if you do we need to report you to DHS.

The Distance on Cat 5e or Cat 6 is about 320 Feet.

Do any gE network elites have recommendations for beefing up the security for home wireless routers? I went in and renamed my network and added a really long password. Also changed the username and password that came with the router itself. As far as I can tell, it has the WPA2 setting. Is there anything else that I should change?

Got an email from our ISP this week implying (if I'm reading it correctly) that there was an outage of their network due to an issue with an individual consumer's device. Have a fair number of our kid's devices on the network. Wanting to avoid possible ID theft, that sort of thing.
