when i was a student they still played fball games at the old fball stadium over by the student union. then they had to go build the whole in the ground that they currently play in. nothing gets as loud as the old stadium and i honestly wish they would go back to playing all the games there or at least play one major game there a year like ku or something. it would be great and very loud and give us a big homefield advantage. it's also very close to aggieville so people could just walk over and walk back. think i might email john currie about this.

Ask him to schedule a double-header with Iowa State football game in December and basketball in Ahearn.

In '03 I only ever saw the band doing it. Through the next few years, GA slowly started doing it, then ICAT. Now everyone does it.

Didn't we kind of start the whole First Down! thing in '94?  I didn't get there till '95, need history here.

I was in the SW corner quite a ways up vs USC, and the atmosphere was incredible/loud up there.  OU blocked punt in 2000 was the biggest single play of the DoD at KSU Stadium.  I think after 2003 people stopped paying attention to the football and just went for the drinking in the parking lot.  I haven't been to a game since last year, but it's good to hear that the students are picking things back up again.  The Wabashing looks great on TV.

In '03 I only ever saw the band doing it.

+1.  My buddies and I would get into ICAT about 15-20 minutes before gameday and ther was always 1 or 2 rows open right behind the band/tubas.  Morons would sit there because they didn't realize the band sat during the game action.  

First notice drum major doing the claw thing in '03.  Confused.  Assumed it was a band thing.

Guys, I think it's pretty clear how this thing started. This picture tells it all:
Band folks sitting around in band practice are discussing the   thing the students are doing and how cool it is. They decide to come up with something similar that they can flash up to other band members as an insidery "band member" thing. Then, one day, a black student notices the band flashing their   (only the claw gesture) sign and thinks, "man, that's almost gangsta; kind of like LA crap" and starts doing after touchdowns, QB sacks, etc. Then the white kids see him do it and say "that's kinda thug, I want to be cool like the black guy: ('cause one of my good friends is black). And there you have it. The Bear Claw is born.

For the last 4 years, the students have been spoiled by the Adorable Cats in Bramlage.  When I was at KSU, we were spoiled by football, but the BB atmosphere sucked.

As the FB team continues to win, the students will get better.
