NYC
« on: September 27, 2011, 05:56:08 PM »
I know there's a thread about visiting NYC on here, but I don't really care. I'm posting this anyways.

I've been to NYC lots, done all the touristy stuff (ellis island, statue of liberty, empire state building, etc..) am going back in November and want some new things to do/places to visit. any suggestions? also, need a nice hotel to stay at (stayed at the westin times square last time) anyone know of any smaller boutique type hotels that are nice/not outrageously expensive?

ps, this trip is for 2 dudes, so don't need to worry about doing things that Mrs. KCFD would like to do. (I'm not against just going out and getting smashed every night, but I don't want to just go to shitty bars, I could do that here)

oh yeah, I've heard of that.
Is it actually cool, or is it one of those things that would be like "oh this is neat, what do we do now? look at this grass?"

I have no idea, just want to do it next time I'm in town.  iirc one of our new york posters talked about it in the NYC master thread but, alas,.....

this, if you are an architect, landscape designer, or in general an artsy person it will probably be super super cool for you, otherwise walk through it, maybe take some pictures across the water and you're done, 30 minutes max, there is the chelsea market http://www.chelseamarket.com/ right by the highline which I've heard is pretty cool to walk through, but it was closed when I was there  :dubious:

not me. while I do enjoy the finer things in life, generally these sorts of things don't amuse me all that much.  the story behind it is cool, and I will probably end up going just to see what it's like. Will report back to you.

Where are you wanting to stay?  I know quite a few good hotels, eateries, and clubs around Times Square

I'm taking the lady for her first trip next month.

I'm reasonably familiar with the city, but not at all familiar with Broadway shows and she wants to see "The Book of Mormon."

Anyone have any suggestions on the best/cheapest way to purchase tickets? I know there are all sorts of services besides Stub Hub and the like, but nothing beyond that.

you can roll the dice and line up at tkts for a lot of shows.  TBOM is really popular right now so that won't be an option for you.
